POEM NO 4

O WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

There are two Imaginary personalities a horse man and a reader. Horse man is going to start a
journey but reader tries to discourage him by telling all the hazards of the way. Reader is one who
reads the stories of other but riders is one who who has the courage to explore his own character in
the story of the world by traveling and observing. Reader tells him that there would be unending
darkness, lack of food, water and comfort there. Horrified man reminds him of a bird that they had
seen, the horrified shape in the twisted trees and symbol of disease on the way. But the horseman
reacts with strength and bravery. He says all these troubles are for those who are afraid of them. A
coward man always suffer because of his cowardice and brave man leaves all these troubles behind.

POEM NO 5

. IN THE STREETS OF FRUITS STALLS

This is a symbolic poem. It symbolizes life during war time. There are two worlds shown in a perfect
symmetry. One is the world of innocence, the other one is the world of experience. World of
experience is full of miseries and troubles of life. It is horror and fear. “The night time”, “Cannon
balls”, “Dark dew”, “Dark children”, and “Dark street” all refer to the world of experience. On the
other hand glow of lamp, the radiant faces of the children, the compressed forms of the moon and
the sun in fruits, all refer to the pleasure of world. Because life has a perfect combination of miseries
and joy. It is up-to us that what we choose.

POEM NO 6

. . A SINDHI WOMAN

The poet sees a Sindhi woman. He is impressed by the grace of her walk. She is walking bare footed
but straight. She walks through garbage, household, waste, dung, and hits of glass. On the other
hand the poet has gotten a bent through he carries no weight. The poet learns that person who
faces difficulties are able to walk with his head erect. He feels himself weaker than her in resolution
and commitment to life. He describes the poor conditions of Karachi slums as well that represent the
down and fall in man's life. The only person who can get through these hurdles elegantly like this
Sindhi woman is one who bear the responsibilities in life.

Poem no 9

The Feed

Sparrows has just one millet to feed ten youngs one. She does not know what to do it. To whom
should she feed? With whom should she join her beak? Whose hunger she should satisfied.

Here the poet criticizes the world's powers who have split the atom for the destruction of humanity.
They could kill millions of people in few seconds. They couldn't make them wail and week. The poet
advices such countries to produce grains instead of atom bombs. They should try hard to alleviate
the hunger of world like an innocent mother sparrow.

Poem no 10

Hollow men

There is group of people lamenting on their present condition. So,it is a group song.

They represent the inactivity of modern men who are so materialistic and have no
shade, form, emotions and souls. They live a life of inertia with zero spirit, will and strength.

They don't follow the man of action that's why the writer calls them hollow and stuffed men.

Poem no 11

Leisure
Modern man is leading a busy life that is full of worries and fears. He has no time to sit under a
shady tree, to see the “dancing feet” of beauty, starry sky and the smiling lips of beauty. Actually
poet uses personification to highlight the beauty of nature to which we are deprived of because of
our useless materialistic activities. He narrates that modern man is apathetic to the world of beauty.
This is what wordswoth says,

“The world is too much with us; late and soon/getting and spending, we lay waste our powers.”

The world is changed into an planet where beauty can not keep her lustrous eyes. The poet delivers
a message that we should not be lost in the world of cares and let our aesthetic sense breath among
the shades of green boughs, starry strans and flowers.

Poem no 12

Ruba'iyat

An example of firm belief is shown in the first stanza. It rebates the belief of hazrat Abraham in Allah
that made him not afraid of fire or any other power of the world. Seeing his belief Allah proved it
and saved him. So the basic concern of Iqbal is to deliver on example of faith that we must hold.

Poem no 13

A tale of two cities

The poet tells us about the destruction of Japan during second world war. The Americans dropped
two atomic bombs on the two glorious cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. What destruction took place
there is beyond description. But in spite of facing such a massive destruction the Japanese proved
themselves to be great. They become the biggest economic power.

Poem no 14

My neighbor friend breathing his last!

The poet's spiritual guide has died. He is grieved and shocked. Many other companions are ready to
die. Everyone talks about death and departure. The poet is awfully sad. He can see no charming
spirit anymore and finds no oay in the world after death of his spiritual guide. He can not go with
him as he can not die by his own will.

This is the moment of realization, we all think the same when our beloved departure. But life goes
on, everything goes on as before and we become normal. Se we must realized that everyone
whether he is guide or follower has to follow the schedule of God. No one can avert if there's
something without which man is at lost is. There's the love of God and it's only love that remains at
last.
