Beauty Care (Nail Care)

Quarter 4
Module 4-7

Nail art is the practice of painting decorative designs on the nails. It is a creative
activity that draws pictures or designs to your nail. Nail art kit includes special brushes,
strippers, marbling tools, and different pattern pins for making the designs. Nail art
pens are ideal tools for drawing and are specifically designed to paint fine strokes,
dots, or patterns on the nail surface.

NAIL ART STICKERS

A wide variety of stickers are out there to choose from. There are stunning
designs, styles, and different sizes suitable for all types of nails. The latest model
stickers are made up of durable rubber, providing the best sticky backing. They include
black and white, colorful, French manicure, glitter and metallic, random, little finger,
rhinestone, and seasonal stickers.

Tools Needed in Placing Nail Art Stickers

1. Nail file
2. Cuticle pusher

3. Small scissors
Steps on How to Use Nail Art Stickers
1. Start with clean, dry nails. They should be completely bare of polish. Push
back cuticles gently, too.

2. Most nail stickers on the market are pre-cut to match common nail shapes,
but it is always good to have small scissors handy just in case any decal is
too large or slightly off shape. Often, a set comes with more than 10 stickers
, so, you should find one that fits each nail well; make sure you have extras
in case you tear one.

3. For a perfect match, before you remove the backing, pre-measure the nail
sticker on top of your nail. Go larger if you are in doubt because you can
always trim excess. If necessary, pre-trim a decal before you stick it on. Once
it is applied, it will be more difficult to get a clean cut.

4. Press on your nail sticker close to the cuticle and smooth it out toward the
end.

5. In case of extra sticker beyond the free edge of the nail, use your file
downward along tip of nail to remove the extra, taking care not to file on top
of sticker. If you accidentally file too much, you will see your nail showing
through at the tip; do not take sticker off. For an easy fix, just add a little
polish in a shade that matches sticker, right along the edge as needed.

6. The final trick to keep stickers put is “to iron” them. Push and pull your thumb
down onto each nail, from cuticle to tip. The heat generated from the
"ironing” effect will help them last longer and no need for topcoat.

7. Depending on the directions listed on your stickers, you will either peel them
off or remove with regular polish remover.
You can create your own nail art stickers using magazine, colored paper,
plastic wrappers of chips and candies. Nail art designs may depend on your
preference; they can be flowers, shapes, lines, and many more. Always
remember to handle properly the scissors or cutter while doing your nail art
designs. Make sure your nail art designs can be applied to toenails and
fingernails. Also, do not make too big designs because it will not fit to your
fingernails. Do not forget to put inside the trash bag all the soiled materials or
trash after finishing your nail art designs. Always clean your workplace.

WATER MARBLING
Women can now use a wide variety of nail art designs to make their nails more
appealing—one popular technique used by nail technicians in the water marbling
design. Water marbling is one of the most distinctive and innovative techniques of
designing nails, creating an attractive and gorgeous design.
Professional nail technicians in Japan developed the water marbling nail
technique. It was popularized in the 1990s in a commercial used by a Japanese
shopping center. In 2010, it had been created using acrylics and gels and had been
popularized across other countries.

Water marbling is a nail decoration technique done by dropping nail polish in

the water, which creates a pattern that is then transferred to the nails. The following
are the materials needed in water marbling.
TIPS IN WATER MARBLING
 Use room temperature water, cold water dries up the nail polish quickly.
 Use a small cup because big containers require too much nail polish.
 Use clean water so the nail polish can quickly spread on the water, and no impurities
will mix on your design.
 Drop the nail polish close to the water. If you drop it too high, it will settle at the bottom
due to gravity.
 Water marbling will not work on topcoat, basecoat, glitter, matte, metal, and old nail
polish.
 Their consistency is too thick, making it impossible to spread on the water.
 Work as fast as you can to prevent the nail polish from drying up quickly.
 Dispose materials properly and do not throw the used water on sinks because it will
cause clogging.

The Water Marbling technique is created by dropping nail polish into the water,
creating a patterned design, then transferred it from the water to the nails. To
successfully create a marbling design, make sure to follow the tips and have all the
tools and materials close to your workstation before creating the designs.
DOT NAIL ART
Dot nail design, also known as "dotticures," may vary from big dots to small
ones to decorate nails. Dot is the foundation for more nail art. You may begin with
dots to create almost any shape or design.

A Dotting Tool will help you create an even and perfectly symmetrical dot on
your nails. It comes in different ball sizes to create a variety of dotting work and is also
helpful for freehand nail design.
OMBRE NAIL ART (SPONGE)
An ombré nail design is discussed below which you may consider as a young
nail technician.
Ombré nail art is described as the application of colored nail polish with a
smooth blend of colors from light to dark. The gradual change of tint and shades makes
your nail design stands out. Creating a perfect ombré for your nails may take time to
practice. You may use two or more complementary colors or multiple colors of your
choice to make your ombré effect unique.
An Ombré nail brush is designed with long and soft bristles to create a color
fade in every application and achieve the desired ombré nail design. This tool is
available in the market and usually comes in a set.
A Nail Art Sponge Tool comes with quite fine and thin foam. Dabbing it gently
into the nails will produce an ombré. It usually comes in a kit that includes another nail
art accessories or separately sold in a padded design for easy handling.
Any of these two primary tools will help you do the technique in creating an
ombré effect.
REMEMBER
nail art sponge tool and ombré nail brush are the primary tools in creating an
ombre nail design. They help in performing the technique of blending nail polish colors
to produce a perfect ombré. They are widely available in the market. For other options,
a make-up sponge, cotton pads, regular nail polish brush, and make-up brushes will do.
