Blazing Grace Productions Treatment

By: Katie Mallows (Director) Sophie Dixon (Producer) Asa Newmarch (Cinematography)

Band: Song Name: Emotion Year: 2001 Genre: R&B

Destinys Child

The Brief: We need to produce a portfolio of productions, such as a music video which is our main text, plus two ancillary texts: A digipak and a magazine ad for the digipak. The music video gives us a creative freedom of choice. The mark scheme: - Research & Planning 20% - Products 60% - Music video 40% - Ancillary texts 20% (10% for magazine ad and 10% for digipak) - Evaluation 20%.

Music Video Synopsis: The video will focus on two of Goodwins Theories, these being
performance and narrative. The video will focus on a couples struggling relationship in a variety of different locations with each member of the band being around when each scenario takes place. Flashbacks will be used to show the happier times of the couple, which will be shown in black and white to signify a

flashback. To show signs of tension and anger, during the argument there will be a picture of the couple thrown onto the floor and smashed. Later on in the video during the narrative sequence, the video will split into two frames. Each frame will show the aftermath of the breakup from the perspective of the boy and the girl, this will create a binary opposition. During the performance aspect of the video, the band members will be wearing white dresses and perform in front of a white background.

Target Audience: We will aim our video to teenagers because of the age of the characters seen in the
video. The audience will be to relate to the characters, due to that and fact that the characters are suffering from realistic problems. In this case, a break up and the aftermath that precedes it.

Locations for filming: We plan to use a variety of locations for the video. Firstly, well use a Caf or
restaurant which will be shown in a flashback because it will be the starting point of the disequilibrium (in this case, the break up). Well also use some more romantic locations, such as the Cow and Calf to help represent the happier times of couple, in contrast to their depressing fate. The home of the girlfriend would be the next location, since that is where the couple finally break up at. Ilkley train station and around Ilkley will also be used because the video will split into two frames. Each frame will show the aftermath through each characters perspective. Linking in with the use of Ilkley, the boyfriend will be roaming around Ilkley thinking about his actions towards the break up.

Props & Costume: The characters will wear casual clothes during the narrative sequences. However, during
the flashbacks they will be wearing different clothes which will help to signify the passage of time. Like I said before, for the performance aspect of the video the band members will be wearing white dresses and jewellery. This will symbolise them as being angelic beings because during the narrative aspect of the video, each band member will appear in each scenario and then mysteriously vanish.

Notable shots/camera techniques:

Well be using a variety of shots for the making of the video. Close ups will be used during the narrative to show the characters emotions. For the performance aspect of the video, mid shots, high angle and low angle shots will be used to show the three band members performing. The video will cross cut between the performance and narrative sequences of the video. High angle and low angle shots will be used during the narrative sequences to show a contrast between the amounts of power the couple have between each other. Mid-shots and long shots will be used during the narrative sequences to show shot variation, as well as using shot-reverse
