Virtual Laboratory Activity - BIOL 1121 - Unit 3
Data Collection and Result
While you are working on this virtual lab activity, please record your data in the tables
below.
1. Data Collection Tables
A. First Set – Presence of Green and Blue leakage channel
No. Solution Movement Across Membrane
1. Green Particles 3 particles moved across the
Total membrane.
particals=10
2. Blue Particles 2 particles moved across the
Total membrane.
Particals=10
Overall observation:
In the time of 30seconds, without any external factor, 3
Green particles and 2 blue particles move from the
Provided membrane via one green and one blue
leakage
Channel.
B. Second Set – One green and one blue gated channels
No. Solution Movement Across Membrane Movement Across Membrane
when the channels are closed when the channels are open
1. Green Particles no movement across the 4 green particles moved
Total membrane. across the membrane when
Particals=10 the channels were opened.
2. Blue Particles no movement across the 2 blue particles moved
Total membrane. across the membrane when
the channels opened.
Particals =10
Overall observation:
This experiment has two activities that contain ten green and ten blue particles
Separately across the membranes. When the channel gates were closed for 30
Seconds, no movement had occurred. When the gates were opened, in
30seconds
Overall 6 particles moved across the membrane 4 green and 2 blue via the green
And blue opened gated channels respectively.
C. Third Set – One green gated and one blue leakage channels
No. Solution Movement Across Movement Across Membrane
Membrane (Closed green (Open green gated channel)
gated channel)
1. Green Particles No movement across the Five green particles moved
Total membrane of green across the membrane
Particals=10 particles.
2. Blue Particles 2 particles moved across Four blue particles moved
Total the membrane. across the membrane.
particals=10
Overall observation:
In the part 1 of this experiment when the green get it channel is closed only a few
Blue particles have moved across the membrane.
In the second part of this experiment way open the green gated channel which
Allows green particles to move across the membrane. Show the overall
Observation for this experiment is that when the green gated channel is closed no
Movement of green particles is recorded.
D. Fourth Set – Four green gated channels and four blue leakage channels

2. Blue Significant Almost 5

Overall observation:
In the first part of this experiment were had used four blue channels from which
Almost 5-8 particles were crossed time to time.
2. Conclusion
Write a conclusion about this virtual lab activity in 5-6 sentences.
The conclusion I present is based on my understanding of this experiment. I
3. Conclude that the blue and green particles are different types of molecules
inside or
Outside the membrane. The membrane does not allow to pass these molecules
Through it without the channels. For a real cell we can assume that the blue particles
Are inside the cell for example proteins or Calcium ions, while the green particles
Are outside the cell for example glucose or oxygen particles or potassium ions.
When the particular gated channel is closed there is almost no movement of that
Particle across the membrane. When the gated channel is open the particles can
Move through. As number of channels increase, the rate of diffusion or particle
Movements increases. For the leaked channel particles can move freely does not
Opening or closing to that.
Leaked channels: leak channel are ion channels that allow ions such as potassium
And sodium to move through the membranes, making membrane permeable to the
Ions. Without these membranes ions cannot cross the hydrophobic interior of cell

Gatted channels:
Permeability of gated channel depends on external factors like concentration or
Binding of other molecules.
