Critical Thinking Exercises No. 5
1. As a nurse educator, explain the seven principles of good teaching and cite specific examples for
each.
- One of the seven principles of good teaching is facilitating student-teacher interaction. This is
making a closer relationship between the student and the teacher to establish a supportive and
interactive learning environment for everyone. For example, you encourage students to ask
for clarification regarding the discussion or their concerns and you provide constructive
feedback to the outputs of the students. To create an atmosphere conducive to collaborative
learning, the teacher must encourage students to cooperate. Through this, students can
socialize and can practice working as a team and work together toward a certain goal. In this
case, you can create collaboration between students to students by requiring them to work
with group projects or case studies. Initiate active learning to enable students to actively
criticize content they are learning by talking about the material, writing about it or even
applying it. Through this, the students are able to apply the knowledge. For example, in
nursing setting, the students are doing related learning experience so that when they are in the
hospital, they would know what to do. Giving prompt feedback to the students also would
enable them to react and understand what aspects of learning they need to improve. Give
constructive feedback that would help the students improve. In instance, in a nursing setting,
providing feedback after observing the student perform during patient care would help the
student to reinforce learning. A teacher should also emphasize the use of time in each task to
make sure that the students know how much time they should spend in learning activity. For
example, providing students assignments and setting a clear deadline for it. One of the
principles is to communicate high expectations. Set challenging yet achievable learning goals
to motivate the students to strive for excellence. For example, providing guided
demonstrations standards reinforces the importance of meeting high expectations in nursing
education. Last but not least, respecting diverse talents and ways of learning. Recognize and
accommodate the diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities of students.
2. How do teaching principles affect the teaching and learning process?
- Teaching principles affect the teaching and learning process by providing a framework for
educators to design and structure their instructional activities. Also, it is designed to optimize
the learning process and improve learning outcomes. This also promotes engagement within
students as it is centered in an active learning process. Last but not least, this supports student
success by creating inclusive, supportive, and challenging learning environments.
3. In what way will the teaching methods guide the teacher for effective teaching learning outcome?
- The teaching methods guide the teacher for effective teaching learning outcomes by selecting
teaching methods that are appropriate for the intended learning outcomes. There must also be
engagement and active learning to provide effective teaching methods as this can enhance the
student’s motivation and interest in learning. Other than that, being technology intellectual is
also one of the teaching methods that is effective. As this can create dynamic and interactive
learning experiences.
4. Develop or formulate your own approaches to teaching students the needed skills in nursing and
explain why such an approach is necessary.
- In teaching the students, it is always important that you have both hands-on practice,
stimulation-based learning and reflective exercises. Through these approaches, it can create
an active learning process and activates the student’s critical thinking and experiential
learning. Students are able to acquire skills and master them. These approaches also promote

knowledge with practice, enhance the student’s ability to apply skills in rea-life setting. To
conclude, these are holistic approaches to be able to learn in nursing.

Critical Thinking Exercises No. 6
1. You are teaching nursing students in various levels of competency. How would you qualify
appropriate teaching strategies per level to ensure learning?
- I would qualify my teaching strategies per level based on their level of needs, abilities and
learning objectives. For the beginners, the teaching strategy approach I would do is direct and
concise instructions. I will provide them with step-by-step guidance to ensure learning. For
intermediate students, I would encourage them to participate in active learning strategies that
help them engage in the learning process. This includes critical thinking, problem solving
exercises and discussions. For advanced learners, I would do an approach where they would
experience the real-life setting of nursing. I would provide them with hands-on experience
and exposure to the healthcare facilities and different kinds of patient.
2. Why is teaching strategies important in affecting learning?
- Teaching strategies are important in affecting learning because this influences the information
based on how it is presented, processed and retained by the students. Aside from that, it
creates engaging, interactive and learning experiences which promote comprehension, critical
thinking and motivation among the students.
3. Explain the difference between clinical teaching and classroom teaching?
- Clinical teaching is to improve and maintain a high standard of clinical instruction. The
teacher in nursing should show academic excellence, concern and commitment. This teaching
focuses on the application of theoretical knowledge and the development of practical skills.
On the other hand, classroom teaching occurs in a classroom setting. This is the type of
teaching that engages the students face-to-face with others. This focuses on critical thinking
and studies about theories and fundamentals.
