8 Maps for Every Occasion
Sheng Huang

I help people to discover their purpose and gain momentum in their lives through
Mind Mapping, Systems Thinking, and Project Management techniques. My YouTube
videos have helped thousands of people around the world get better at taming their
professional and personal chaos.

I cut my teeth at companies like Google and Niantic Labs where I gained a diverse
mindsets ranging from strategy, product management, operations, venture capital,
and business development. I went to UC Berkeley for 2x degrees in Legal Studies and
Business and flew across the world to do my MBA at the London Business School.
Mind Maps for Every Occasion
No matter what you’re Mind Mapping
This quick start guide has you covered. These are 8 of my favorite Maps on the
following topics:

1 Getting things done Each Map will have a

description, a tutorial video
and template
2 Deep learning

3 Life planning

4 Personal growth
I. Get Things Done
Mind Map #1:
The first step to turning any idea
6-in-1 Project Map
into reality is to answer these six
questions: Why, Who, What, How,
When, and Metrics.

Use this mind map to expand your

answers while maintaining the big
picture, uncover hidden connections
and form action steps.

I. Get Things Done
Mind Map #2:
Start your day organized. This is a
map you can make every morning Daily To-Do Map
to lay out your tasks and see
where they fit into the larger
weekly picture by grouping tasks
into major categories.

Compared to a traditional list, this

map expands your to-do items
without first worrying about
sequence. Assign priorities and
time estimates after you’ve
identified the tasks.

II. Deep Learning
Mind Map #3:
Mind maps are often used to
organize chaos so we can build
things and manage projects. This
System Deconstruction
mind map trains you to think like
an analyst. Use it to better
understand anything: a business,
your pet, a tree, the chair you’re
sitting on - anything!

The purpose is to divide your

subject into its smallest possible
building blocks. If you know how
to deconstruct something, you’ll
know how to reconstruct
something.

II. Deep Learning
Mind Map #4:
You’ll engage semantic, motor, and
pictorial learning to absorb Video Map
everything you read, listen and
watch. This technique is the
foundation of mapping lectures,
meetings, podcasts, and
conversations.

Compared to traditional note-

taking, you’ll be able to draw
connections between elements
regardless of chronological order,
annotate highlights and insights as
they come to mind.

III. Life Plans
Mind Map #5: Life Roadmap
Use this map to create a
visualization of your future
goals. You’ll identify your "why"
and break down ambitious goals
into smaller steps.

This map starts with 5-year long

term goals, which break down to
1-year medium and 3-month
short term goals. Feel free to
customize the timeframe to your
needs. The further away a node
is from the center, the more
short term and actionable the
goal is.

III. Life Plans
Mind Map #6: 2-Week Sprint
The 2-Week Sprint is adapted from the same framework used by top companies. Combined with
the Life Road Map, this technique chunks big ambitious goals into manageable short projects by:

1) Focusing on just 3-4 areas, 2) Setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic,
Timeframed) goals, and 3) Building momentum by achieving small goals in the beginning.

IV. Inner Growth
Mind Map #7:
Use this map to better
understand someone and
Person Map
improve our relationships
by expanding a person’s
past, present, future and
world views.

Technique is like drawing a

portrait of someone you’re
getting to know, a
snapshot of who they are
and what contributed to
their development.

IV. Inner Growth
Mind Map #8: Emotion Map
Being emotionally stifled is terrible. All you know is that you’re overwhelmed. But somehow, you
just can’t seem to verbalize how you feel. This mind map uses the Human Emotion Wheel to
define and analyze how we feel, so that we can begin to address and communicate the roots of
our emotions.
