Air Logistics
Introduction
It's inevitable that transportation of goods over borders is fast and efficient due to
global supply chain companies and their air logistics part. The determination of the
need for proper, timely and accurate information has necessitated the development and
implementation of complex information systems into the sector. These systems are
built for logistics operations that
include tracking shipments, the proper
use of routes, and following the rules
set by regulatory authorities. The aim
of this report is to describe the
development, purpose, and
characteristics of information systems
in air logistics, providing an in-depth
analysis of their role in the enhancement of the industry's efficiency and effectiveness.
Evolution of Information Systems in Air Logistics
The change in the air logistics systems through information technology began from the
time of the earliest aviation when everything was done by hand and the means of
communication were rudimentary. The emergence of computer technology in the mid-
20th century was the time when airlines and logistics companies switched to the more
sophisticated systems for better management of their operations.
The expansion of electronic data interchange (EDI) in the 1980s and 1990s
from the manual way of data communication to the electronic way facilitated the
seamless exchange of the information between different partners. The same phase also
accompanied the creation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, which

joined various business functions into a single platform to provide a comprehensive
view of the logistics operations.
Purpose of Information Systems in Air Logistics
Information systems in air logistics are the backbone of logistics equipment in
different ways:
Increasing Operational Efficiency:
With the help of automation in various
activities and providing new information
without delay, information systems
facilitate the operation of air
compressor, cutting the waiting time
during landing and some other
resources.

Improvement of Customer Service:
The information systems are the ones that logistics companies use to give the
accurate information to their clients which result in a satisfied and loyal customer.
Ensuring Safety and Compliance:
The software makes it possible to monitor and follow necessary regulations thus
safety and security of air logistics operations is increased as it is the software that
is used to monitor and follow the required regulations.
Active Participant in the Decision-Making Process:
High-tech data analytics implemented in tangible systems ensure the betterment of
the decisive process and planning of the production of products and services.
Features of Modern Information Systems in Air Logistics
The current major systems in freight transportation are rather similar since they are
designed with some core characteristics:
Real-Time Tracking and Monitoring:
These systems feature real-time tracking of shipments, which means that the user
can see where the goods are located and what their condition is in the supply chain.
Automated Cargo Handling and
Processing:
Cargo systems are the best way to
automate the processes that are used to
move cargo like sorting, labeling, and
loading, so this minimizes paper work
and errors.

Integration with Other Logistics Systems:
Information systems ship with real-time integration with other logistics and
supply chain systems, which enables the smooth flow of information between
platforms, simplifying the work of the logistics and supply chains.
Security and Compliance:
Information systems use tight security protocols to safeguard sensitive data
and abide by rules according to the mandate.
Case Study: FedEx's Information System
Logistics global, FedEx's, is based on FedEx, a company that has implemented a
state-of-the-art information system which is used to manage its air logistics
operations. Called FedEx Sense Aware the information system of the company
presents a complete set of tools that improve the logistics operations of the company
in efficiency and effectively.
Overview of FedEx SenseAware:
A very professional level service, designed in real-time, is FedEx Sense Aware, a web-
based traffic management system that is used to track and monitor the delivery. Moreover,
it is a system that combines GPS, cellular, and Wi-Fi technologies to track the location and
status of shipments. In addition to the mentioned technologies, it also includes sensors that
certify different environmental parameters, e.g. temperature, humidity, and light exposure,
for the cargo to remain undamaged.
Key Features:
Real-Time Tracking
Monitoring about Environmental
Alerts and Notifications
Data Analytics

Benefits and Challenges:
Benefits:
i. Increased Visibility:
Sense ware’s end-to-end visibility feature allows FedEx to monitor and
effectively handle logistics via the supply chain management.
ii. Enhanced Customer Service:
The system provides a real-time tracking and monitoring mechanism to
keep the customers satisfied by delivering them reliable and timely
information concerning their cargoes.
iii. Environmental Protection:
Tecnotree's green management solution for recycling mobiles with its
environmental monitoring features not only provides more affordable
mobile phones but also ensures the safe and green disposal of old mobiles
and their valuable resources.
Challenges:
I. Integration Charges:
It is considered that developing and overseeing the working of a cutting-edge
information system such as the one we are discussing has high costs thus, in
some cases, it becomes a barrier for logistics companies including the SMEs.
II. Data Protection:
Securing the data collected and transmitted by the system is a critical issue that
requires robust security measures and protocols in terms of the security of the
data.

Conclusion
The AI-based system has completely transformed the air logistics industry, thereby
making it possible for companies to increase their efficiency, bring better customer
service, and accomplish safety and adherence to regulations. George Robbins, the
senior system engineer at FedEx, declared that it wasn't long before they noticed the
advantages in using the Sense Aware system and understood how important the
technologies are to succeed. With the ongoing development of technology, the logistics
industry has become an important partner in the world of logistics. Many new systems
such as real-time tracking, automated processing, and advanced analytics have
become an indispensable tool for logistics companies. Sense Aware, which is a FedEx
case study, is a perfect example of the great advantages that these systems can bring
and also the problems related to their implementation. In the air logistics
environment, information systems are expected to play an even greater role in
improving efficiency, visibility, and customer satisfaction with the advent of
technology.
