Kathleen Ann Gagaza — BSBA FM 2

1. What is the Etymological, Nominal and Real definitions of Philosophy?

— Philosophy, etymologically derived from the Greek words meaning “love of
wisdom,” is nominally defined as the study of fundamental nature of knowledge,
reality, and existence, and is really understood as the systematic and critical
examination of the most basic elements of the universe and human experience.
2. What are the Branches of Philosophy?
— The main branches of philosophy include metaphysics (study of reality),
epistemology (study of knowledge), ethics (study of moral values), aesthetics (study
of beauty), logic (study of reasoning), political philosophy (study of government and
justice), philosophy of mind (study of consciousness), and philosophy of science
(study of scientific foundations).
3. What do you think is the essence of Logic in your course?

As a college student taking BSBA major in Financial Management, I think logic is

essential for helping me think clearly and make better decisions. These skills are
crucial in the finance world.

First, logic plays a big role in analyzing financial data. I often deal with large
amounts of information, like balance sheets and income statements. Using logic helps
me focus on what’s important and make informed financial decisions.

Second, logic is important for building strong arguments. Whether I’m presenting a
business case or advising on investments, I need to be convincing and support my
points with solid evidence. Logical thinking ensures my arguments are clear and
based on facts, which is important when explaining my financial decisions to others.

Decision-making is another area where logic is key. In financial management, I often

face important choices, like budgeting and managing risks. Logic helps me weigh the
pros and cons, predict possible outcomes, and choose the best option. This way, my
decisions are based on careful analysis instead of guesswork.

Lastly, logic helps me solve problems. Financial management often involves complex
issues. Logical thinking allows me to break down these problems into smaller parts,
making it easier to find solutions. This approach is especially useful when addressing
financial discrepancies or strategic planning challenges.

1. What is the Etymological, Nominal and Real definitions of Philosophy?

 Philosophy, derived from the Greek words “philos” (love) and “sophia”
(wisdom), nominally refers to the study of the fundamental nature of
knowledge, reality, and existence, and in real terms, it is the systematic
and critical examination of the basic elements of the universe and human
experience.
2. What are the Branches of Philosophy?
 Philosophy is traditionally divided into several branches: Metaphysics
(study of reality and existence), Epistemology (study of knowledge and
belief), Ethics (study of moral values and principles), Logic (study of
reasoning and argument), Aesthetics (study of beauty and art), Political
Philosophy (study of government and justice), Philosophy of Mind (study
of the nature of the mind), and Philosophy of Science (study of the
methods and implications of science).
3. What do you think is the essence of Logic in your course?
 The essence of logic in a BSBA course is to cultivate critical thinking and
analytical skills that are essential for effective business decision-making
and problem-solving. Logic enables students to systematically evaluate
evidence, make rational decisions, and develop coherent arguments. This
is crucial for strategic planning, as it ensures that all factors are
considered and assessed. Additionally, logical thinking enhances
communication skills, allowing students to present ideas and arguments
clearly and persuasively. Furthermore, logic underpins ethical reasoning,
helping students to evaluate the consequences of business actions and
policies. Overall, logic is fundamental in preparing students for the
complexities of business management and leadership.
