So everyone, here are the things to consider (students are listening)

when engaging in Outdoor Activities.

Things to Consider when Engaging in Outdoor

Activities
1. Plan carefully by doing your research. Learn
about the area that you plan to visit.
• Contact local tourism officers or see if there are
local organizations that could help you organize
outdoor opportunities. You can try getting in
touch with wardens, wildlife trusts, and cycling or
canoeing clubs.
• Are there any specific guidelines and points of
interest for these activities? For example, access
laws may be different from one place to another.
• Research local opportunities for outdoor
activities near your home.
• Look for news items in local papers and posts
on social media that tell stories about outdoor
activities.

2. Go to the venue beforehand if possible, and

talk to the people in charge. Ensure that the site
is aware of any specific needs or concerns that
you need. Be clear about your aims for the visit.
3. Plan your budget. Seek quotes from several
centers. Analyze what you are getting for your
money; remember that cheaper does not always
mean better. Think local and be creative, for
there are many fre attractions all over the
country.
4. Keep updated checklists, encourage people to
take responsibility for the following:
• Financial matter (Is your activity paid for? How
much money do you need to bring?)
• Insurance (Is your group or family insured for
the activities you have planned? Does the venue
have the necessary insurance coverage?)
• Risk assessment (These need to be completed
for all activities, for your travel to and from the
chose: center, and for the buildings you will be
using.)
• First aid (Are you going with people who are
knowledgeable on first-aid procedures? Do you
have a fully stocked first-aid kit and accident
book? Do you know where the nearest hospitals
are in relation to your activity or accommodation?
Bring extra safety items such as clean water,
flashlight with batteries, maps, and cellphones or
radios.)
• Weather (Is your trip or activity dependent on
the weather? Do you have an alternative plan if
the weather suddenly becomes unfavorable?) (students are listening)
• Clothing (What clothes do you need to bring?
Does the activity you have planned require
specific clothing? Do you need to have spare
clothing or weatherproof clothing?)
• Equipment (What equipment, if any, should you
bring?)
5. Do an itinerary on the following:
• Transportation, such as hiring a minibus, taking
public transport, and walking distances. This will
most probably be dependent on cost and time.
(What is the most appropriate way of getting
your group to the destination? Have you booked
your trip in advance?)
• Accommodation, such as residential centers,
campsites, self-built shelters, and boats. (Is your
accommodation accessible to the activities you have
planned?)
• Food Do you want cooking to be part of the
experience, or do you solely want to do the activities
and just pack some food? Are there affordable
restaurants or eating places nearby?)
• Activities, which may be priced depending on the
number of hours that was stated. (Are the timings
right? Is the correct equipment provided?)
6. Consider others by acting responsibly. Avoid
boisterous activities, and ensure that your group and
other people will enjoy the outdoors.
7. Tread lightly. Stick to existing paths when hiking or
trekking, and avoid walking on the sides of these
paths, as doing so may widen the eroded areas.
8. Leave no garbage, and do not damage trees,
plants, or water resources. You can do your part in
cleaning up some of these outdoor sites by picking up
litter. You can make a game out of this by letting
people guess how long each item it would take to rot.
Here are some of the usual trash items and the length
of time they need to degrade:
• Paper (two to four weeks)
Banana peel (three to five weeks)
• Wool hat (one year)
• Cigarette butt (two to five years)

• Tin can (80-100 years)

• Aluminum can (200-400 years)
• Glass bottles (thousands of years)

9. Plan how you will document your trip and what will
be the most appropriate method to get there.
10. Do not go to unauthorized or restricted areas (students are listening)
11. Give space to be with nature. Try to avoid doing
activities one after another quickly. Allow people to
relax by looking at the beautiful sceneries that nature
has to offer
12. Expect the unexpected! The unexpected will often
provide the greatest learning opportunities or
experiences
