METHOD STATEMENT FOR BLOCK WORK
SETTING OUT
A Theodolite is used for the setting out
The centre line of the building is marked first
Then, lines for the walls and balcony are marked along the columns for the block
work to be done.
BLOCK WORK
The 100mm and 150mm hollow cement blocks are used for the block work
For the bathroom walls and for the outer walls of the building, 150mm cement blocks
are used.
For the separation walls and for the balcony, 100mm cement blocks are used.
For the inside of the columns where the walls will be raised, the column should be
chipped and chicken mesh is laid and cement paste is put along that. This prevents
any cracks occurring along the wall-columns connections in the future.
For every two rows of the block work, two 6mm diameter mild steel bar is inserted
into the cement mortar layer.
The proportion of cement-sand mortar used is 1:5.
Stiffener columns are erected right in the middle of the wall, and tie beams are erected
for every four rows of block work.
For the walls with the doors, tie beams are erected for every 5 rows of block work.
The space between two blocks, where the cement mortar will be applied should be not
more than 15mm and not less than 12mm.
The verticality, angle and the alignment of blocks should be checked by the QA
officer.
All the walls along the corridor should align on the same line.
