6.1 Material Storage and Handling

a. When the material arrives, it is checked for compatibility with the

approvedmaterial, alldocumented in the Receipt Inspection Form.

b. Storage of pipe material is carried out in an open area with sufficient space and to
consider safety aspects and does not impede construction activities.

c. The storage method for the pipeline is shown in the figure by calculating the safe
height. ASTM A53 pipes should always be stacked on a base of raised wooden
battens. The battens should be of sound timber free from protrusions and at least
100mm thick x 100mm wide. The battens should be positioned approximately
900mm from each of the pipes.

Square stacking:

The sockets at each end of the preceding tier locks the pipes in position.

METHOD STATEMENT 6
Parallel stacking using wooden rolling boards:

An adequate numbers of chocks should be wedged under the outer of each tier
and nailed to timer bearers to ensure stability

Pipe material is sent and transported to the work site using heavy equipment.
