CONFLICT: Conflict between parents and children is unavoidable and it’s a

part of family life. The amount of conflict differs from family to family is
depended on many factors. It is mainly due to the differences in thoughts and
actions related to education, love, politics and values. The disagreement that
we often see is about the way young people dress. While parents want their
children to dress simply and conservatively, children love fashionable clothes
which can express themselves. Another typical difference is in preferences.
Children usually interested in pop or rock music. However, parents think that
this type of music is too noisy, they prefer classical and folk music instead.
Another reason for conflict is that children feel like they are being treated
like small kids. While teens want to be more independent and make their
own decisions, their parents try to impose their opinion on them.
Generational conflict creates an invisible emotional gap in the family,
sometimes even causing unnecessary hurt to both parties. Therefore, to
bridge the generation gap between parents and their children, both
generations have to change their mindset and develop more understanding
and acceptance to each other. Parents should spend time communicating with
their kids regularly and make less comparison. These actions will create
mutual trust and understanding between us and family remains the best place
to live.
➔ Yes, my family also has some typical issues such as the curfew, the way I
dress or my scores in exams. In order to solve these problems, I think I shoud
take as much time as possible to communicate with my parents so that I can
have better relationship with them.

2. RULES: Although my family’s atmosphere os very open and pleasant, there
are still some specific rules to follow. Firstly, one of the most important rules
is that all family members must engage in doing household chores. For
example, my mom is responsible for shopping and preparing meals. My
father is in charge of heavy tasks like fixing household appliances. And my
brother and I have to clean the house, do the laundry along with the dishes.
Second, out of concern for my brother and I's safety, my parents don't allow
us to come home late at night, our curfew is 10 p.m. Third rule, my parents
want me study seriously. They always monitor my learning process so I
always try to study to get high scores in class. The last important rule in my
family is that we must eat well. Before eating, we need to wash our hands
and invite everyone to eat. And we are not allowed to eat fast, highly
processed food. However strict all these rules is, they help me improve
myself and create a mutual trust and understanding family. So I feel
comfortable with these rules and try to follow them to get along well with
my family.

3. GENERATION GAP: A generation gap, an endless social phenomenon, is
defined as the different behaviors and worldviews held by members of two
or more than two generations. Specifically, the gaps could include the
differences in thoughts and actions related to education, love, politics and
values between younger generations and older ones. This is happening more
seriously between parents and their children because of the rapid social
development with a lot of changes in habits, culture and technology. For
example, the world today is getting more and more advanced, most parents
do not even know many of the modern gadgets and equipment their children
use in their daily life. As a result, most families now face many kind of
tension between parents and teenagers like homework, boundaries and trust.
Therefore, to bridge the generation gap between parents and their children,
both generations have to change their mindset and develop more
understanding and acceptance to each other. Parents need to spend time
communicating with their kids regularly to listen to their daily life and help
them deal with their problems. When parents and kids have calm and
dialogues, they will understand each other more and get a better relationship.
Parents should also learn to accept what their children’s hobbies when
possible and make less comparison. This will make children closer to parents
and vice versa and make that generation gap a little smaller.

5. Problems in city: In recent year, there have been a number of everyday
problems that I and people living in cities have to cope with. The first one is
daily traffic congestion. Sometimes, ambulances and fire trucks cannot arrive
in time to complete their tasks, which causes serious losses. To talk about
measures to this situation, I think there is no other way than repairing wider
roads and encouraging people to use public transportation. Another problem
people in my city have been faced with is the increasing amounts of
household wastes and litter. The water in the stream near my house is really
dirty and trash is thrown everywhere on the streets. This leads to the
destruction of natural surroundings and environmental pollution. The local
government should ensure that the local factory has water treatment system
and ask citizen to clean the surroundings every week. Finally, the air
pollution caused by emissions from millions of vehicles, construction dust
and lack of trees negatively affects the health of residents. As a result, people
are suffering from various diseases such as lung cancer or sore throat. So
what needs to be done here is to plant more trees, limit the use of polluting
means of transport and raise the awareness of protecting the environment
among students and citizens. Indeed, city life brings some difficulties as well
as challenges to people.

6. PROBLEM AFFECTING TEENAGERS: Along with the development of
society, Vietnamese youth also face more serious problems. One problem
affecting teenagers in Vietnam is obesity, which is caused by their high-fat
diet and the lack of regular excercise. This problem will affect both teen’s
physical and mental health. Teenagers are also put under many pressures.
First of all, there is pressure from family and school. More and more
teenagers have oustanding academic achievements, which has
unintentionally created pressure on their friends. There are many teenagers
who suffer from peer pressure because they are constantly compared to their
friends. Next, when they graduate from college, they are pressured by
society. They are forced to succeed faster than their parents age. This means
they have to work harder. Furthermore, as science and technology are rapidly
developing, they are forced to think faster than machines or they will be
eliminated. Finally, they have to face health threats from air pollution, many
complex diseases and improper diet and rest. In general, Vietnamese
teenagers must be strong and talented to survive.

7. GLOBAL WARMING: Today, one of the most worrying threats humans face
is global warming. The two main reasons for global warming are natural
influences and human. A major cause of global warming comes from the
natural greenhouse gases CO and SO2. It blocks the sun's rays and prevents
them from escaping the earth's surface, which causes the earth's temperature
to increase. As for human influences, it is contributing more than natural
causes to global warming. Human activities including industrial production,
burning fossil fuels like oil and coal for our everyday, which are adding extra
carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Global warming leads to some serious
changes on Earth. For example, the sea level are rising with a profound
impact on our oceans and marine life and result in destructive erosion,
wetland flooding and soil contamination with salt. Extreme weather
conditions such as severe storms, hurricanes, tsunami and droughts are
obvious consequences of global warming. Furthermore, global warming can
cause widespread extinction of species. Using less fossil fuel to limit the
amount of carbon released to the air is considered as the best way to slow
down global warming. By driving less, turning down the heat and air
conditioning, and using more solar and wind power, we can all reduce
greenhouse gases and help fight global warming.

8. ASEAN COUNTRY TO STUDY: Among the countries in ASEAN, I would
like to study in Vietnam. Situated on the eastern part of Indochina Peninsula
in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is a small and beautiful country with victorious
history, wonderful landscapes, diverse cuisine and friendly people. It has a
population of around one hundred millions and a tropical climate. As being a
nation of 54 ethnic groups, Vietnam absolutely has a colorful culture with
various traditional customs and cultural identity. Vietnam has many higher
education institutions, including public and private universities which offers
a wide variety of specialized programs with reasonable tuition fees. Beside, I
don’t have to live far from my parents and also have a chance to figure out
more about my hometown.
