QUESTION ONE [30 MARKS]


a) From the following data of heights (in inches) of a group of plants.

Calculate:

iii) Mode [1 Mark]
iv) Semi interquartile range [2 Marks]
v) Coefficient of skewness [4Marks]

b) The probability that a boy will get a scholarship is 0.9 and a girl will get is 0.8 .What is the
probability that at least one of them will get the scholarship? [4 Marks]
c) The table below shows the marks scored by 228 students in a control system test.

b) If P( A) = 0.5 , P(B ) = 0.3 , P( A  B ) = 0.2 , obtain the probability
i. A but not B . [2 Marks]
ii. At least one of A and B occurs. [2 Marks]
iii. Neither of A and B occurs. [2 Marks]
c) In a large metropolitan area, the probability of a family owning a colour T.V , a computer or
both 0.86, 0.35 and 0.29 respectively. What is the probability that a family chosen at
random during a survey will own a colour T.V and / or a computer? Given that the family
chosen at random during a survey owns a colour T.V, what is the probability that it will own
a computer. [8Marks]

the questions that follow.

men. Find the probability that the committee has
i. 3 women and 2 men. [2 Marks]
ii. 5 women. [2 Marks]
iii. At least 3 women. [4 Marks]
