INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER DEVICES
A computer is a device made up of various elements which help in its effective functioning and
processing.
Components of the Computer
These are the primary element which makes up the functioning of an electronic device smooth
and faster.
The Components (Hardware)
Input Unit: A computer only respond when a command is given to the device. The
command is given by the input unit such as the keyboard etc.
Output Unit: This unit reverts for the action performed on the computer and gives a
result. E.g. monitor
Control Unit: This unit collects the data entered using the input unit, leads it on for
processing and once done it relives the output
Memory Unit: This is a unit where all the data entry are saved/stored
INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHICS DESIGN USING CORELDRAW PROGRAM

of Corel graphics suits which includes the bitmap-image editor Corel photo paint as well as the
graphics program.

POWER POINT
PowerPoint is a presentation program developed by Microsoft that creates slides show of
important information, charts and images for presentation.
POWER POINT INTERFACE
Launching of PowerPoint
After installing the program the launch for the program by double clicking or right click on the
program icon on the computer desktop and click open.
Benefits of PowerPoint
PowerPoint provides multiple benefits to users, some are;
It is widely used and considered the standard for presentation
Includes many optional presentation features, including slides transitions, animation
layouts template and more
It offers the option to exports its slides to alternative file formats, including GIF and JPG
images, MPEG-4 videos, PDF, RTF (Rich Text Format), WMU (Windows Media Videos
and PowerPoint XML.
SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
System maintenance is cat cha terms used to describe various forms of computer or server
maintenance required to keep computer system running system properly.
Components to Keep Clean
Keep the keyboard, mouse and opening clean
Gently clean the monitor
Keep food and beverages away from laptop and desktop
Organize cords and other e-Debris
Don’t over charge your batteries
Don’t block the vents
Have desiccants or hand
Keep magnet away
Be careful with unfamiliar Wi-Fi networks
PRINTERS
A printer is an external hardware output device that takes the electronic data stored on a
computer or other device and generates a hard copy. For example, if you created a report on your
computer, you could print several copies to hand out at a staff meeting. Printers are one of the
most popular computer peripherals and are commonly used to print text and photos.
Types of Printers
Below is a list of all the different types of computer printers. Today, the most common printers
are inkjet and laser printers.
3D printer
AIO (all-in-one) printer
Dot matrix printer
Inkjet printer
Laser printer
LED printer
MFP (multifunction printer)
Plotter
Thermal printer.
LASER PRINTER
The laser printer was first developed at Xerox PARC by Gary Stark weather and released in 1971
that utilizes laser technology to print images on the paper. Laser printers are often used for
corporate, school, and other environments that require print jobs to be completed quickly and in
large quantities.
How a laser printer works and its printing steps
Cleaning: This process removes the prior image information and toner from the drum.
Conditioning: The corona wire applies a uniform, positive charge to the photoreceptor
drum.
Writing: The image to be printed is drawn onto the drum using a laser to "carve-out"
positive charges and leave behind negative ones. As an aside, the laser in the printer uses
light sources, like LED (light-emitting diode) or LCS (liquid crystal shutter).
Developing: The toner in the ink roller is ionized with a positive charge, attracting it to
negatively charged areas on the drum.
Transfer: The drum's toner is transferred to the paper by either a positively ionized field
(created by a transfer corona wire) or a transfer roller in newer printers. The toner is not
yet permanently set on the paper and requires the last stage.
Fusing: Heat and pressure are applied to the paper and toner by two fuser units. The
toner melts and is pressed into the paper like doing an iron-on transfer to a T-shirt.
Printer Interfaces
USB cable and port
There are a few different ways a printer can connect to and communicate with a computer
(referred to as interfaces). Today, the most common connection types are by USB cable (wired)
or via Wi-Fi (wireless). Below is a full list of cables and interfaces used to connect a computer to
a printer.

INTRODUCTION TO TOINER CARTRIDGE
Toner cartridge: This is the component of a laser printer that is responsible for creating the
images printed on paper. It is a special type of cartridge that, rather than enclosing liquid ink,
contains a dry mixture of toner powder that is adhesive to paper via electric charge and heat.
The toner comes in four different color namely; Blue, Cyan, Magenta (red/pink) and Yellow
TONER CARTRIDGE
Components of Toner Cartridge
Toner Powder: This is mostly of finely grounded plastic particles mixed with polymers,
carbon and coloring agents to produce the physical color on paper.
Seal: This is a plastic protective strip that is along the main roller of the cartridge to
create a gap between the application rollers and the doctor blade to present to toner
powder from spilling out prior to installation into your printer.,
Doctor blade: the Doctor blade is an element that removes the excess toner from the
developer roller. The doctor blade also warrants that the exact amount of toner needed for
printing is released to the developer roller. The is where the charging of the toner occurs.

MICROSOFT WORD
Microsoft Word is a word processing program that allows for the creation of both simple and
complex documents. With Office 365, you are able to download the application to your hard
drive and will also have access to the online version. The online version gives you the capability
to share and collaborate with others on your files in real-time.
The program can work on multiple platforms, like Windows, mac OS, smartphones, and tablets.
Microsoft Interface
What can you do with Microsoft Word Docs?
Use the traditional options like copy, cut and paste.
Add headers and footers, and page formatting.
Use Mail merge for letters, envelopes and labels.
Access add-ons like dictionaries, mail chimp, and Fax.
Open and edit PDF files.
Insert pictures from your hard drive or from the web right from the Microsoft Word
Insert Tool Bar.
How to Install or Reinstall Microsoft Office
After you purchase Microsoft Office, activate and download the product. Detailed instructions
are included in the packaging if you buy the software at a retail store or order a key card online
from someplace like Amazon. If you order directly from Microsoft, you'll get the link in an
email. There’s an "Install Office" link on the receipt.
If your organization uses volume license versions, your company's IT department might use a
different method to install Office. Talk to your IT department for installation help.
Enter your product key (or activation code). This product key lets Microsoft know the software
was purchased legally. The key comes with any physical packaging you receive and is included
in an email if you ordered digitally. Select your country or region and language, as well.
Write this activation code down and keep it in a safe place. You’ll use it if you need to reinstall
Microsoft Office.
Product Key page
Select Install Office. After the installation file is downloaded, what happens next depends on
which web browser you use. When you select Install, a dialog window at the bottom prompts
you to either run the file, save it, or cancel. Select Run and work through the installation process.
The easiest way to install Microsoft Office is to use the Edge browser.
NETWORKING
Networking id referred to as connecting two or more computers electronically for the purpose of
sharing information. And resources such as files, applications, printers, and software are
common information shared in a networking.
Most common types of Network;
LAN (also known as Local Area Network): This is made up of two or more computers
connected together in a short distance usually homes, school, and office buildings.
WAN (also known Wide Area Network): This is a network that covers Wide Area than
LAN and usually covers cities, countries and whole wide world.
Note: It is important to know and ensure that data collision does not happen when this devices
attempt to use data channel simultaneously.

HOW TO INSTALL NETWORK WIRING
To install network wiring, the following must be done;
Create a central hub where the router and networking switch will be located
Create an outlet near the hub, and another where networked devices will be.
Run the necessary cables through wall or roof depending on one’s choice.
Fit outlets with faceplates
Test run the connection and
Configure the devices to use the network.
