D. Explain
Class, do you have any clue what our topic
will be for today? Yes, Ma’am. It’s about essay.
Yes, that’s right!

So, do you have any idea about essay? Ma,am, essay is a short piece of writing that tells a
person’s thoughts or opinions about a subject.
Yes, that’s right. Essay is a piece of writing
that usually has five or more paragraphs.
An essay is written about one topic that has
several main points. The main points are
introduced in an introductory paragraph
and supported in body paragraphs. The
conclusion is the last paragraph.
And of course, it written to convince
someone or something about certain issue
or inform a reader about a particular topic.
The essay includes several important
components or main parts. These are
introduction, body, and conclusion.

The first part is introduction. The

introductory paragraph is the first
paragraph in an essay. It contains two
parts. Can you guess the two parts of (Students answer may vary)
introduction?
Ok, general statement and thesis
statement are the two parts. General
statement has a few sentences about your
subject that catch the attention of the
reader and the thesis statement is one
sentence that tells your reader the main
points of your topic and states the overall
plan of your essay.
Next part is the body. The body paragraphs
consist of one or more paragraphs
following the introduction. Each paragraph
supports the main idea of your essay by
breaking it down into smaller ideas or sub-
topics. Each body paragraph consists of a
topic sentence and several supporting
sentences. A conclusion sentence draws
the paragraph together.
And the last part is the conclusion. The
conclusion paragraph is the last paragraph
in the essay. It completes the essay by
summarizing or repeating the most
important ideas. The conclusion can also
include an opinion, a prediction, or a
solution to a problem.
Did you understand what is essay and its Yes, Ma’am.
parts?
So again, what are the three parts of the Introduction, Body and Conclusion, Ma’am.
essay?
Very good.
Now, can you give me some key points to
remember during essay writing?
Mr., __________give me your idea. Ma’am, I think in writing an essay, we have to be specific,
avoid unnecessary description, and use simple language.
Yes, that’s right.
An essay begins with a general point about
the central issue. Thesis statement should
be included. Essay should have mapping
statements. In writing, you must show your
understanding of the topic that has been
set. Show how you plan to address the title
in your essay structure. Use simple
language and there should be a logical
continuation from beginning to end. Don’t
be too subjective, aggressive, or pessimistic
in your tone. Come up with good points
and express new viewpoints.
E. Elaborate
Paper paste challenge!

You are only given 2 minutes for this

Aggressive Driving Should Be Avoided

Aggressive driving is a phenomenon, which has only

recently got the public worried. The National Highway
Traffic Safety Council (NHTSC) defines aggressive driving
as the “operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that
endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property.”
Actions such as running red lights, improper passing,
overtaking on the left, improper lane change, improper
turns, running stop signs, careless driving, and speeding
are examples of aggressive driving. Such actions are
dangerous to other road users. Aggressive driving should
be avoided because it causes crashes, injuries, and
fatalities.
The first reason why aggressive driving should be avoided
is it causes crashes. According to NHSTC, between 78
percent (excessive speed) and 100 percent (improper
passing) off all the cases of aggressive driving resulted in
traffic crashes and 96 % of the drivers cited for “following
too closely” or tailgating caused crashes as a result of
their aggressive driving. Moreover, “running red light”,
” improper passing” ¸ and “overtaking on the left”
topped other categories of aggressive driving in
contributing to traffic crashes.
Another reason why aggressive driving should be avoided
is it causes injuries. NHSTC states that the percentages of
the injuries caused by aggressive driving are in almost all
categories of aggressive driving, above 100 percent.
Aggressive driving also causes fatalities. “Overtaking on
the left” appears to be the most important contributing
factor in traffic fatalities as it relates to aggressive driving.
“Improper lane change”, “running stop sign” and
“running red light” rank second through four in terms of
their contribution to traffic fatalities.
The above evidences show that aggressive driving causes
crash injuries and fatalities. Hence, aggressive driving
should be avoided. Since the opening on the North- South
highway, the number of kilometers of roads in the
country has increase by one percent while the number of
vehicle miles driven has increased by 35 percent. More
cars and more drivers are also on the road leading to
more aggressive drivers.

whole sheet of paper and write an essay
about the photos I posted on the board.
Just choose one picture you want to be
your topic in your essay. I will give you 15
