1.

In not more than three (3) sentences, cite and explain one (1)
reason why the Catholic Church actively discredits the Rizal
Law’s content and prevents it from being passed.

Some of the controversial contents from the novels of Jose Rizal, “Noli
Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo,” were against torture by the clergy.
The Church has always been scared of such kinds of works; they might
fall in the wrong hands of students and further promote anti-clericalism
in the church, hence destroying its moral authority. There is some
underlying reasoning behind the attack because the Church is worried
about the power and legacy that might have a dent due to the Rizal
Code.

2. What are the provisions and possible benefits of studying

about the Rizal Law? Support your answer in not more than
seven sentences.

The Rizal Law has provided for the inclusion in the curriculum of every
school newspaper in the Philippines of the life, works, and writings of
Jose Rizal, particularly “Noli Me Tangere”* and “El Filibusterismo.”. It
provides access to these activities for students and provokes the
understanding of the role Rizal has played in Philippine history. It can
inspire a feeling of national pride and patriotism by connecting
students with the struggle for independence and nationality. Besides, it
gives way to critical thinking by stimulating analyses of historical and
social issues in works created by Rizal. The life and works study of
Rizal imparts moral and ethical lessons that highlight such values as
courage, honesty, and commitment to the cause of social reform. But
more significantly, discovering Rizal’s history benefits the students in
terms of getting closer to their roots as a nation and encourages them
toward responsible citizenship.

Consejo del los Dioses),” for what reasons did the gods justify

In the Council of God, El Consejo de los Dioses)* God recognized

Cervantes’ contribution by underlining his performance of literature
and delivering great performances that are of moral and ethical great
importance. Still speaking, the fact of winning over Homer and Virgil,
they still do admire his manner of narration uniquely performed by
Cervantes differentiates him from the classics, and his critical

were considered to have aesthetic worth and very high appreciation of
human virtue, so they granted recognition to his works.

4. What made the Filipinos strive zealously to read Rizal’s literary

works for national identification? Answer with justification in
not more than three (3) sentences.

Filipinos often cite Rizal’s writings assigned to their country, for his
works go against colonial rule and show the history and culture of the
country. Rizal’s works inspired pride among Filipinos and truly moved
somewhat a sense of unity; these served as a catalyst in driving the
people of the nation in the struggle against colonial rule by the Spanish
from their country. His ideals of freedom, equality, and justice were
parallel to those of Filipinos desiring liberation from colonial power.
