Asking Questions
Here are some questions to help you determine some of your key values. Write a short response to
them on a separate piece of paper. Make sure you are writing in complete sentences. Remember to
ask yourself WHY? Even if the question doesn’t ask you to. Hand in this sheet as your title page.

1. Suppose a philanthropist gave you $100,000 to give to three favourite charities. You have
one week to dispose of the money. Which worthy causes would you pick and why?

2. Are you a follower or a leader?

3. Would you rather lose the ability to talk or the sense of hearing?

a) If you said the ability to talk, who would be the last person you’d like to talk to?
b) If you said hearing, what is the last sound you’d like to hear?

4. What is you worst bad habit? What first step should you take toward overcoming it?

5. What one saint would you most like to meet, and what would you like to ask him or her?

6. If you knew you were to die in three months, what three things would you change about
yourself starting right now?

7. What would you like the priest or a best friend to say at your funeral?

8. Would you rather play a sport with someone slightly more or less talented than you? Why?

9. Would you rather be in a class where your fellow students are smarter or slightly less
talented than you? Why?

10. What person would you most like to meet? (The Person may have passed away already)
What would you ask this person?

11. What do you admire most about your parents or guardians?

12. Have you ever thought of a vocation to the religious life? What would you say if a priest or
sister told you that you’d make a good religious leader?

13. What is your greatest achievement to date? What goal would you like to reach in the next
five years?

14. At what career would you like to be most successful? Define success in your own words.

15. Suppose someone breaks into your house and steals everything. However, the burglar
allows you to keep one thing. What would you keep and why? (The burglar will not steal a
pet, or family member. You will never catch the burglar, so keeping a weapon to stop
him/her will not work.)
16. If you were to die tonight, how would you like to spend the rest of your day?

17. Would you rather be successful at sports or at making friends? Why?

18. Would you have participated in an assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler’s life knowing that
its chances of success were only fifty percent? Why? What if there was also a fifty percent
chance that you would die during the attempt, would you do it then?

19. Would you ask one of your parents to call your school to say you are sick so you could stay
home to finish a school project? Would this be lying?

20. A friend of yours asks you to read his essay. It is terrible. He will be hurt if you tell the
truth. How will you handle this situation?

21. Would you lie for a friend? If yes, under what circumstances? If not, why not? What if he or
she offered you $100 to lie?

22. You bought some items in a Dollar store, and you notice that the clerk did not charge you
for all of them. Would you tell the clerk?

a. Would you tell if you knew the cost of the item would be docked from the clerk's
pay?
b. Would you tell if the clerk was your brother or sister?

23. If a man fell over in the street in front of your school clutching his chest and gasping for air,
what would you do?

24. Would you date someone from a different race? Why or why not?

25. At the lunch table some acquaintances begin to ridicule a friend of yours. Would you defend
your friend even though you know they will pick on you next if you do?

26. If an employer made inappropriate sexual advances to you at work, what would you do?

27. A good friend of yours tells you that he or she is gay. What do you think you should do?
What would you do?

28. If you discovered that your closest friend was pushing drugs at a local elementary school,
what would you do?

29. If a terrorist broke into your group and demanded that someone step forward to be executed
or everyone would be killed, who would step forward? Would you?

30. Your sister needs a kidney transplant. If you donate your kidney, there is a small chance
you'll die. Would you?
