FEMALE

REPRODUCTIVE
SYSTEM
LESSON 3
INTRODUCTION
The complex system of organs and systems that
make up the female reproductive system is in charge
of generating eggs (ova), promoting fertilization, and
assisting in the growth of the embryo during
pregnancy. In addition to being crucial to human
reproduction, it regulates hormones, which affect
menstruation and general health.
Vagina (Birth Canal)
- receives the penis during sexual
intercourse
-serves as a tube for menstrual
flow from the uterus.
-average vaginal depth is 3–5.8 in.

Hymen
- thin layer of tissue appearing in
the vagina of many female
mammals, including humans.
-left over from fetal development
Cervix
–cylinder-shaped neck of tissue
that connects the vagina and
uterus
-allow the flow of menstrual
blood from the uterus to the
vagina and to direct semen into
the uterus
Dilation
Ovary
–paired female reproductive organ
that produce eggs and female sex
hormones (progesterone and
estrogen) which regulates the
menstrual cycle
Fallopian Tube
-primary function is to transport eggs
from the ovary to the uterus 4 inches
long narrow and 1cm wide
-connect the ovaries to the uterus
Uterus (Womb)
-inverted pear-shaped muscular organ
-located between the bladder and the
rectum
-nourish and house a fertilized egg
until the fetus, or offspring, is ready to
be delivered.
Urinary Bladder
-like the stomach, is an expandable
sac-like organ that contracts when it
is empty
-stores urine that is produced by the
kidneys and excrete it from the
body.
Urethra
-canal where urine passes from the bladder
to the outside of the body
-generally shorter than those of men

Clitoris
-small projection of erectile tissue in the
vulva of the FRS
-contains thousands of nerve endings that
make it an extremely sensitive organ.
Touch stimulation of the nerve endings in
the clitoris produces sensations of sexual
pleasure.
Labia Majora
Labia Minora -commonly called outer

Key Components

Ovaries: Produce eggs and hormones (estrogen and

progesterone).
Fallopian Tubes: Transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.
Uterus: A muscular organ where a fertilized egg implants and
develops into a fetus.
Cervix: The lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina.
Vagina: The canal that connects the cervix to the external body,
serving as the birth canal and the exit for menstrual flow.
