What is Computer Fan?

Computer fans are found inside the computer case and help
prevent the various computer parts inside from overheating.
Without them, components of your computer can
malfunction, become damaged, or even crash.
A fan is a hardware device that keeps the overall computer
or a computer device cool by circulating air to or from the
computer or component. The picture is an example of a fan
on a heat sink.
A computer fan is any fan inside, or attached to, a computer
case used for active cooling. Fans are used to draw cooler
air into the case from the outside, expel warm air from
inside and move air across a heat sink to cool a particular
component.

1
What is computer fan’s role?

Fan's role in the computer is to drag the cooling air into the
computer to cool the internal parts of the computer in the
heat, especially the CPU.
On the desktop, the fan normally draws part of the energy
and air source through it, helping to cool the computer part.
If the PC's CPU is too hot, it will normally turn off and not
work, it will need to be turned off and shut down. If the
computer is unable to inspect the heat that overheating may
cause fires.
So the role of fan in the computer to cool it in the heat, one
of the problems with laptops is that the fan is not big like a
desktop so it will be warm in the least time than the desktop
that warms up the most time in their use.

2
Types of fans found in a computer

Below is a listing of the different types of fans used in a

computer.

Case fan - a fan on the side of a computer case, inside the

case. It helps circulate air in the computer case, and blow
hotter air out of the case.

CPU fan - a fan on top of a computer processor. It helps

pull and blow hot air off the processor, helping keep it
cooler.

Power supply fan - a fan located inside a power supply.

The power supply fan blows hotter air out of the power
supply and out of the computer.

Video card fan - a fan on a video card. It helps keep more

powerful video cards from overheating, especially when
playing video games, editing videos, and other GPU or
graphic-intensive tasks.

3
How computer fan and heat sink work
together?

A computer fan can do one of three things. First, it can draw

cooler air from the outside and into the computer case; that
is, it can pull in the air. Second, it can get rid of the warm
air inside the computer; that is, push out the air. Lastly, it
can move the air across a heat sink to cool another
computer part, such as the central processing unit (CPU).
A heat sink is a component that absorbs and dissipates
heat. In this set-up, you can think of the computer fan and
the heat sink as a tandem that works together.

Size of Computer Fan

A computer fan commonly comes in a square frame,

although round ones are also available. The usual sizes are
60, 80, 92, and 120 millimeters (about 2.36, 3.15, 3.60, 4.70
inches). The size, of course, depends on where the fan will
be placed. The computer case or computer chassis is
where fans are usually mounted. They can be installed
behind, in front, at the sides, or even on top of the computer
case.

5
What Is the Fan Function in a Computer?

Computer fans are sometimes noisy and irritating, but they

perform the very important function of cooling the computer,
specifically the central processing unit. If this component
reaches a pre-set temperature, the computer will shut
down. This is called a "thermal check," and mainframes,
servers and personal computers all have this protective
feature built in.
