Lab Report

Name: ____________ Breathing Rate Date: ________

Task 2

Title: Investigating how Physical Activity a3ects your Breathing Rate.

Objective: Exploring the relationship between physical activity and breathing rate by
formulating a hypothesis and performing an experiment with moderate guidance on the
Scientific Method.

Introduction: Your breathing rate is the number of breaths you take in a specific period. In
this lab, you will investigate how physical activity (exercise) a3ects your breathing rate, you
will measure your breathing for 30 seconds to calculate your breathing rate per minute.

Step 1 – Question: Write down the question you are trying to investigate below. (Use the
title to help you).

Step 2 - Hypothesis:
When you exercise, your body needs more _____________________________________________

Step 3 - Prediction:

Step 4 – Experiment:

Procedure:

1. Relax and sit quietly for 2 minutes.

2. Use the stopwatch to count how many breaths you take in 30 seconds. Write this
down.

3. Perform jumping jacks for 2 minutes.

4. Count how many breaths you take in 30 seconds.

Variables:

• What is the independent variable in your experiment (the variable you change)?

• What is the dependent variable (the variable you measure)?

• What are some controlled variable(s) (the variable you keep the same)?

Step 6 - Conclusion:

• How did the exercise a3ect your breathing rate?

2. How do you think your breathing rate would change if you measured it after
resting for a longer period?

3. Do you think your breathing rate would change if you repeated the experiment
at different times of day (e.g., morning vs. afternoon)? Why or why not?

4. How can your results about breathing and exercise help people in the UAE stay
healthier?
