STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
MSc HealthCare Management - Northumbria University
I am Nudeesha Primal Edirisinghe. I want to study the MSc healthcare management
programme at your university to become Nurse Manager/Head of Staff Nurse, to earn a
monthly salary of beyond LKR 125,000 along with other non-financial perks.
I graduated with a BSc Hons Nursing degree from the University of Sunderland in the
UK in 2022, and I have extensive knowledge in healthcare theory, practices, and care
management. With a Second-Class undergraduate degree, I am certain that I am qualified
intellectually to undertake the aforementioned MSc programme. Since this degree was
entirely completed in English, it will be helpful to me while I am studying for the MSc.
The National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) in Sri Lanka
offered a Certificate of Competency in Nursing Course in 2017, which I successfully
completed. Through this programme, I gained in-depth knowledge and expertise in nutrition,
nursing fundamentals, maternal and child health nursing, mental health and psychiatric
nursing, nursing, and nursing ethics. Prior to this, I finished a three-year- Diploma in Nursing
from Nawaloka Hospitals Plc in 2010, where I participated in clinical practice at the general
surgical ward, general medical wards, ENT division, orthopedic unit, neuro surgery unit, and
many more locations. I am also a registered nurse with the Private Health Services
Regulatory Council since 2014 under PHSRC/PSN/1421.
My family has always been a major supporter of my professional development as a
wife and mother to an 8-year-old daughter. Due to this, I was able to begin working as a staff
nurse at Nawaloka Hospitals in 2007 while also pursuing my diploma in nursing. I had my
first overseas work experience in Hong Kong as a professional caregiver during a two-year
period following the completion of the Diploma in Nursing and my registration as a nurse,
with eight years of experience as a staff nurse at Nawaloka Hospitals.
Then in 2017, I joined Hemas Hospitals as a staff nurse and joined Ninewells Hospital
in 2019 as a Staff Nurse, where I am currently employed. Currently, my duties include
administering physical exams to identify patients' health needs and issues, providing direct
care to patients who are hurt, disabled, ill, or recovering, reviewing and maintaining medical
records, implementing nursing care plans, and educating patients and their families about
disease prevention and maintaining good health.
As a registered nurse with more than 15 years of industry experience, an
undergraduate degree in nursing, and nursing professional certifications and a diploma, I am
therefore actively seeking career advancement to Nursing Manager/ Head of Staff Nurse
position within the next three years before I turn the age of 40 so that I will have a greater
advantage during the career progression.
The MSc Nursing degree would undoubtedly help me in my endeavors because of
Northumbria University's reputation. Over time, this will also help me achieve my long-term
objective of working as a nurse consultant specialized in staff nursing treatment plans. I thus
hope you will consider my student application positively.
