Introduction

My name is Huma Nasir. I am a student of B.ed 7th semester at Fatima Jinnah Woman

University, Rawalpindi. studying in B.Ed - 7. The topic of my research is “ Effectiveness of

academic performance by using visual aids is social studies at grade 5” “Effects/Effectiveness of

Visual Aids on students’ Academic Performance in Social studies at Grade 5”

Introduction of Research

Research is a process of systematic inquiry that entails collection of data; documentation of

critical information; and analysis and interpretation of that data/information, in accordance with

suitable methodologies set by specific professional fields and academic disciplines.

Research is conducted to evaluate the validity of a hypothesis or an interpretive framework; to

assemble a body of substantive knowledge and findings for sharing them in appropriate manners;

and to generate questions for further inquiries.

1.1 Rational of research

The topic of my thesis is Effectiveness on academic performance of students by using visual

aids in Social Studies in grade 5 .

 I will ask what kind of subject they like to study

 What is the normal way of teaching by the students

 What is there academic performances criteria

dry subject they really on the bookish content with out using any kind of aids.

I want to teach that subject in the attractive ways to make students more interest in the social

studies.

It is related to me because when I was in grade 4 my teacher taught me social studies subject by

using lecture method me and my friends were bored and when some of the times she used her

teaching strategies we enjoyed in the class

I chose for the local reason

This topic is important because in the social studies teachers need to be use different kinds of

strategies for students better learning

I will take the permission from principal then take permission from the subject teacher and then

I will take the pre-test from the class and then teach them by using visual aids and take the post-

test from them

I will like to involved the teacher and students in this research

Problem statement

Teacher should be fully commanded on social studies .Teacher should teach the students by

using charts,models ,and hands on material for their effective learning .Teachers Prepared their

lectures by using traditional method .Teacher should be need to follow the new technology

which is cheap . I will use the visual aids in the class to make students academic

Purpose statement

It is helpful for students to take interest in social studies .It is an effective way of learning for the

students to use visual aids in the classroom by the teachers .

Research questions

1. What are the effects of visual aids on students learning in social studies at elementary level

2. Does teacher knows how to use visual aids in class

3. Are teacher focusing on students conceptual learning

Hypothesis

Students learn more effectively by using visual aids in social studies .

Use of visual aids significantly affect the academic performance of students in social studies.

Or

There is no significant effect of visual aids on students’ academic performance in social studies.

Significance of the study

The current study was aimed that effectiveness of using visual aids play an effective role in

students academic performances in the school level .It is helpful in the student learning an

kind of chapter to understand it in the better way .It is effective in the various way we can

teach the students by images, web maps ,charts and models . By using visual aids we can also
 develop critical thinking in the students . It also has good teaching impact on the students

learning .

Operational Definition

VISUAL AIDS

Visual aids are things that you can look at, such as a film, model, map, or slides, to help

you understand something or to remember information.

Visual aids can be defined in two ways: as a picture or a diagram you show learners to help their

understanding, or in a broader sense as anything you show learners in a classroom to do this

1. One school selected due to less time

BACKGROUND OF STUDYS

Learning is a complex process. Most of the students thinks that social studies is a dry subject

and they don’t get interest in the studies .Teacher use lecture methods to teach students

According to the Rather instructional method is also effective in students social studies

Visual aids are tools that help to make an issue or lesson clearer or easier to understand and

know (pictures, models, charts, maps, videos, slides, real objects etc.). There are many visual

aids available these days. We may classify these aids as follows, visual aids are which use sense

of vision are called Visual aids. For example :- models, actual objects, charts, pictures, maps,

flannel board, flash cards, bulletin board, chalkboard, slides, overhead projector etc. Out of these
black board and chalk are the commonest ones. The challenges of classroom instruction

increases when prescribed a course to the class while course books (textbooks) are constituted

with too many interactive expertise activities. Most significantly, it has convert a common

phenomenon to integrate textbooks with audio visual aids as additional or supplementary

resource for classroom course learning activities. Visual aids are important in education system.

Visual aids are those devices which are used in classrooms to encourage students learning

process and make it easier and interesting. Visual aids are the best tool for making teaching

effective and the best dissemination of knowledge.

Visual aids are those instructional devices which are used in the classroom to encourage learning

and make it easier and motivating. The material like models, charts, film strip, projectors, radio,

television, maps etc called instructional aids. (Rather, 2004)

In the teaching of the social studies technonlogy play an effective role in the students learning

Koç (2005) says that the integration of technology into curriculum means using it as a tool to

teach academic subjects and to promote higher-order thinking skills of the students.

Developments in technology gave scope for innovative practices in the classroom.

Visual aids are effective in the students learning in the social studies it is help ful in the

multifarious values mohanty says The use of visual aids in teaching learning process has

multifarious values (Mohanty, 2001).

Population
 Population of the study will be students of govt schools of elementary schools from

Rawalpindi. I will do research on teacher and students at the grade 5 in the government

school RAWALPINDI.

Limitation

Resources are less and limited time for the research

Sampling Techniques

Sample will be selected through convenience sampling./ Convenience sampling technique

will beused to select the sample.

The researcher will use the convenient sampling by taking pretest and post test in the class

to assess the academic performance by using visual aids .

Literature review

Education

Education, discipline that is concerned with methods of teaching and learning in schools or

school-like environments as opposed to various non-formal and informal means of socialization.

Education has to be accessible to all. Thanks to modern technologies and internet innovators.

Due to them, now rural people, poor people, and people living in huts are able to get access to
education through mobile phones. Even they can show and guide their kids by becoming aware

of the information that they are getting from videos, search engines, and social media.

Words and images can be used throughout your presentation from the introduction to the

conclusion. However, remember to restrict their use to key moments in your presentation; an

over use of visual aids can be hard to follow.

In social studies subjects if students use visuals aids they easier all the languages barriers

according to the Chacko says Good learning resources can help solve certain language barrier

problem as they provide accurate visual image and make learning easier for the student (Chacko,

1981)

Visual aids are also effective in the students to develop the critical thinking as Kishore (2003)

said “Visual aids stimulated thinking and cognize.”

Visual aids are effective in the students learning in the social studies it is help ful in the

multifarious values mohanty says The use of visual aids in teaching learning process has

multifarious values (Mohanty, 2001).

Methodology

Research Design

I will use the action research to determine the student academic performances to the primary

level

Planning

I will use the questionnaires to check the students interest in the social studies
And checklist will use that which methodology is effective for students learning

Action Plan

Questionnaires I will take in class to check students intrest in social studies

Checklist will use to check the effectiveness of teaching methodology in students learnig

I will take the Pre test and Post test in the class

Action

I will see that hoe their teacher teach them by using checklist to assess that why student loose

interest in social studies

Questionnaires will use to check the students interesting tools in social studies to teach

Then I will teach the students by using visual aids

Then take the Post- test from the students by using 2 check list

Results

I will conducting Pre-test and post-test by using questionnaires and checklists

To enhance the students interest in social studies and giving teachers knowledge about

effectiveness of using visual aids

Data collection

I will use the questionnaires to determine the students learning and use the checklist to check

their effectiveness on their academic performances.

Pre and Post test will be used to collect data. Before intervention (visual aids) pre test will be

conducted. After teaching them with visual aids post test will be conducted.

I will take class grade 5 over their I will take their Pre-test to check their learning then I will

take the Post-test by teaching them using visual aids

I will use questionnaires fill my the students to check their lesson understanding then use

checklist that my goals are achieved

Data analysis

I will use the qualitative and qualitative data to analyze the data will be analysed by using spss

software .

Ethical Consideration

Ethical Considerations can be specified as one of the most important parts of the research. I will

take the permission letter from the university then I will take permission from the school

principal and then I will take permission from the class teacher of grade 5
