This is a quote about Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist and painter’s famous painting,
“The Two Fridas.” But who really was Frida Kahlo?
Frida Kahlo was born on July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan, Mexico City. When she was
little, she had serious health problems. She contracted polio at the age of 6 and left
her right leg in chronic pain for her entire life. Then at the age of 18, she was in a
major accident which left her with 32 surgeries afterwards. That’s when she
learned to paint and put her emotions and feelings onto the canvas. Kahlo met
Diego Rivera and the two got married.
Kahlo is most importantly known for her uncompromising and brilliant paintings
of self-portraits and her talent for surrealism. She has received the national prize of
Arts and Sciences. Kahlo has painted over 50 paintings, and some include Diego
and I, The Two Fridas, The Wounded Deer, Henry Ford Hospital, The Frame, etc.
She has also been known for her personality, feminism, representing women’s
inner strength, and Mexican arts and culture.
As well as being a famous leader in the art world, Kahlo is also celebrated amongst
many minority groups for her independence, ambition against the odds and for
carving the path to becoming an artist in her own right. She has influenced many
fields of art including feminism, Chicana art, and modern art. Her creativity has
sparked ideas for many and inspired young minds.
In conclusion, Frida Kahlo is a famous, female artist who is very renowned, and
her feminist perspective influenced many areas such as art and leadership. Frida
Kahlo died on July 13th, 1954, but her legacy still lives today!
