Preface
T HE STATISTICAL ABSTRACT OF MIZORAM is a publication brought out by the Statis-
tical Analysis Branch, Directorate of Economics & Statistics in an alternate year. The pre-
sent publication is the eighth in the series, pertaining to time series statistical data from 2011-
2012 to 2020-2021, encompassing various sectors of Mizoram Economy. Data presented in this
publication are collected from various Departments, Non-Governmental Organisations and
other official documents related to the socio-economic aspects of the State.
Being a ‘Nodal Agency’ for Official Statistics of the State, Directorate of Economics &
Statistics has a vision of achieving its theme – ‘One State One Statistics’. For achieving this
herculean task, Mizoram Statistical Database (mizoramdata.in) is prepared; ‘Statistical Ab-
stract of Mizoram : 2021’ is one of the sub-sets of this database. It is hoped that this publica-
tion presents more robust statistical systems for the State.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all Officers and Staff of Statistical
Analysis Branch engaged in bringing out this publication.
I sincerely hope that this publication would serve as a useful source of information to
Administrators, Policy-Makers, Bureaucrats, Development Planners, Scholars, Research

Out of the three sectors of the economy, Services sector contributed the highest Gross
Value Added (GVA) and had been increasing from Rs. 4,41,537 in 2012-13 lakhs to Rs. 9,72,783
lakhs in 2018-19. GVA of Industry sector and Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector remain
more or less the same during the same period. However, Industry sector witness a more rapid
growth while Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector witnessed some fluctuations over the
years. The GVAs of both sectors remained below Rs. 6,00,000 lakhs over the years.

Fiscal Years
Among the three sectors, during 2011-12 to 2018-19, Services sector had the highest
percentage share of the total GSVA of Mizoram. However, its share had been declining during
this period from 59% in 2011-13 to 46.19% in 2018-19. Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector
and Industry sector had more or less the same share during this period.

As shown in Table 3 and Chart 3, except for Forestry and Logging, Gross Value Added
(GVA) at current prices for all other sub-sectors were increasing slowly and steadily during
2011-12 to 2018-19. However, GVA at current prices for Forestry and Logging sub-sector saw a
sharp increase from ₹45,742 lakhs in 2013-14 to ₹2,51,289 lakhs in 2014-15, an increase of more
than 5 times. After this year, it more or less increased steadily. During 2011-12 to 2013-14,
Crop sub-sector had the highest contribution, but since 2014-15 to 2018-19, Forestry and Log-
ging had the highest contribution among the sub-sectors of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing
sector.

In terms of percentage share to the total GSVA for sub-sectors under Agriculture, For-
estry and Fishing sector, Fishing had the lowest share during 2011-12 to 2018-19. During 2011-
12 to 2013-14, Crop sub-sector had the highest share however, with the sharp increase in GVA
of Forestry & Logging in 2014-15, it continued to have the largest share till 2018-19 although
its share saw a continual decline during these years.

Under Industry Sector, Construction Sub-sector had the highest GVA during 2011-12
to 2013-14. However, Electricity, Gas, Water Supply & Other Utility Services Sub-sector saw a
sharp growth over the years becoming the Sub-sector with the highest GVA since 2014-15 till
2018-19. Mining & Quarrying and Manufacturing Sub-sectors have very low GVA as compared
to the other Sub-sectors, but seeing slow increase in GVA as well.

Out of the total GSVA of Mizoram, Construction Sub-sector had the highest share
among Industry Sub-sectors during 2011-12 to 2013-14. However, Electricity, Gas, Water Sup-
ply & Other Utility Services Sub-sector saw a sharp growth over the years and exceeded Con-
struction Sub-sector and had the highest share since 2014-15 till 2018-19 among the Industry
Sub-sectors. As for Mining & Quarrying and Manufacturing, their share mostly remain below
1% during 2011-12 to 2018-19 with negligible increase or decrease of share.

GVA of Sub-Sectors under Services Sector mostly increase over the years. Among these,
Public Administration Sub-Sector had the highest GVA during 2011-12 to 2014-15 and was ex-
ceeded by Other Services Sub-Sector since 2015-16 till 2018-19. Trade, Hotels & Restaurant
also witnessed a rapid increase in GVA especially since 2015-16 while Financial Services had
the Lowest GVA during the whole period of 2011-12 to 2018-19.
Share of Sub-Sectors under Services Sector in Percentage
Among the Sub-sectors of Services Sector, other than Trade, Hotels & Restaurant, all
other Sub-sectors saw decline in share of total GSVA. During 2012-13 to 2014-15, Public Ad-
ministration had the highest share of the total GSVA from Services sector. However, since
2015-16 to 2018-19, Other Services had the highest share. Both these Sub-sectors however saw
a decline in share over the years. Trade, Hotels & Restaurant saw an increase in share since
2014 till 2018-19 while Financial Services had the lowest share during 2012-13 to 2018-19.
