TARGET MEAN STRENGTH OF CONCRETE:

As per IS: 10262-2019
Target Mean Strength = fck + t x s = 30 + 1.65 x 5.0 = 38.25 N/mm2 at 28 days
(Where 5.0 is the assumed standard deviation N/mm2 as per table: 1)

MIX DESIGN
Mix Design has been carried out in general following the guide lines of IS: 10262 -2019
From Table-2, maximum water content = 186 (for 25 to 50 mm slump) for 20mm aggregate.
Based on experience estimated water content for 100 mm slump = 197 liters.
Based on trial with admixture @ 0.92 %, then the water content reduced 23.5 %
adopted Water content = 197-(197 x 23.5/100) = 150.31 say as 150 liters.

CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT

Adopted Water Cement ratio = 0.40
Cement content = 150/0.40 = 375.1 say as 375 kg/ m3.
As per IS:456 minimum cement content = 300 kg/m3. Hence OK

Calculation of Admixture Content

Admixture Content@ 0.92 % = 358 x 0.92/100 = 3.45 kg/m3

PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE & FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT

From Table-3, Volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size aggregate and fine aggregate
(Zone-II) for water cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.62
In the present case, water cement ratio is 0.40.
Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increase to decrease the fine aggregate
content. As the water cement ratio is lowered by 0.10, the proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is
increased by 0.020 (at the rate -/+ 0.01 for every ±0.05 change in water cement ratio), calculate
proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for water cement ratio =0.62+0.020 = 0.640.
Based on experience coarse aggregate volume is 0.640 then fine aggregate volume is 1-0.640 = 0.360 for
mix design.

MIX CALCULATION (Trial-1)

The mix calculation per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows:-
a) Volume of concrete = 1 m3
Mass of Cement 375
b) Volume of Cement = ---------------------------------- ----- = ------------ = 0.128 m3
Specific gravity of Cement X 1000 2.932 X 1000
Mass of Water 150
c) Volume of Water = ------------------------------- --------- = ------------- = 0.150 m3
Specific gravity of Water X 1000 1 X 1000
d)Volume of Admixture = Mass of Admixture = 3.45
-------------------------------------- -------------- = 0.003 m3
Sp. Gravity of Admixture x 1000 1.107 x 1000
e) Air Content = 0.01 m3
f)Volume of all in aggregate=[a –(b+c+d+e)] = [1- (0.128+0.150+0.003+0.01)] = [ 1 – 0.291]= 0.709 m 3
g)Mass of coarse aggregate (20 mm) = e X volume of coarse aggregate X specific gravity of coarse aggregate X1000
= 0.709 x 0.640 x 2.844 x 1000 x 0.60 = 774.29 say as 774 kgs.
h)Mass of coarse aggregate (10 mm) = e X volume of coarse aggregate X specific gravity of coarse aggregate X1000
= 0.709 x 0.640 x 2.712 x 1000 x 0.40 = 492.24 say as 492 kgs.
i) Mass of fine aggregate = e X volume of fine aggregate X specific gravity of fine aggregate X1000
= 0.709 x 0.360 x 2.643 x 1000 = 674.59 say as 675 kgs.
The results of individual Batch Trial Mix concrete are as follows:

M-25 grade concrete.

1. Quantity of Aggregates as indicated here are in Saturated Surface Dry condition. Necessary moisture
correction is required to be made in mass aggregates in daily basis. The surface water and percent
water absorption of aggregates shall be determined according to IS: 2386.
2. Gradation of Fine Aggregate and Coarse Aggregate is required to be checked periodically to satisfy IS:
383.
3. The slump shall be measured and the water content should be adjusted for achieving the required
slump based on the trial, if required. The mix proportion shall be reworked for the actual Water-
Cement ratio and checked for workability and durability requirement.
