Q#1: Answer any THREE from the following questions. [14 marks]
(i) Explain why it is essential to learn about computers today? Discuss several ways computers
are integrated into our business and personal lives.
(ii) Explain the difference between RAM and ROM. How do they contribute to the overall
functioning of a computer system
(iii) How does virtual memory work? Why it is crucial for modern computers?
(iv) Define software. How it is used to instruct the computer what to do?
(v) Discuss the advantages and challenges of wireless networking compared to wired networking.

(i) Discuss any two types of optical discs available today and how they differ from each other.
(ii) What do you mean by HDD? How HDD stores data in computer?
(iii) Discuss the concept of cache memory. Why is it essential in enhancing the performance of a
computer system?
(iv) Explain machine-cycle. How a computer’s CPU and memory components process program
instructions and data.

Q#3: Write justified answers for the following questions. [15 marks]
(i) Define operating system. Explain the different functions of an operating system
(ii) What do you mean by system software? Elaborate the importance of device drivers in the
context of system software.
(iii) Differentiate between serial and parallel data transmission.
(iv) Explain the concept of networking. How do networks facilitate data communication and
sharing in modern computing environments?
