PERT/CPM CHART

OBJECTIVES

The learners will be able to;

1. create PERT /CPM chart;
2. find the total time and critical path.
Problem for PERT/CPM
A Boss in a certain construction says he can estimate the total project time based on his
personal experience. As an Engineer, you are trying to convince him to use project
management techniques.
To prove your point you created a hypothetical work breakdown on the following work;

a. Preparing the site 3 days, and then set the building footers for 3 days
b. Finishing the foundation in 5 days and then assemble the building in 3 days.
c. When the building is assembled , start the two tasks at once; finish the interior work (5
days) and set up an appointment for the final building inspection (15 days);
d. When the interior work is done, start two more tasks at once, Landscaping (2days) and
driveway parking (3 days).
e. When the Landscaping and Driveway are done, do the painting (2 days).
f. Finally when the painting is done and the final inspection has occurred arrange the
sale in (2 days).
