How is Asia affected by climate change?
Climate change refers to the change in the environmental conditions of the earth. This happens due to
internal and external factors. The climate change has become the global concern over the last few
decades. Besides, these climatic changes affect life on earth in various ways. Based on our research one
of the major effect of climate change in Asia is the continuous rising of hot temperature due to a
phenomenon of Greenhouse Effect.
First evidence that Asia is getting hotter due to climate change is Arctic summer sea ice cover has shrunk
dramatically. The heat content of the ocean has increased. Warming and precipitation changes are
altering the geographical ranges of many plant and animal species and the timing of their life cycles.
Secondly, the scorching temperatures at Tokyo Olympics, Which were hotter games on record, that
caused multiple athletes collapsing from heatstroke. This has enormous implicati ons of people’s health.
Extreme heat ramps up the threat to everyone’s health
Thirdly, Relative sea level around Asia has increased faster than the global average, with coastal area
loss and shoreline retreat. Sea level rise is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming: the
added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers, and the expansion of seawater as it warms.
Fourth evidence the risk of morbidity and mortality varies across the population depending upon
tolerance limits and days of exposure. The body of literature reveals that heat waves negatively affect
air quality, infrastructure, energy supply, and the health and well -being of people.
Lastly, “Heat extremes have increased while cold extremes have decreased, and these trends will
continue over the coming decades (high confidence).” (IPCC, 2021: Regional fact sheet – Asia. In: Climate
Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis.) This has enormous implications for people’s health, the
production of food, the viability of ecosystems, and our economies.
2. Study the table below.
Concentration and Sources of Greenhouse Gasses
Greenhouse Gas Concentration Concentration Natural Sources Anthropogenic
(year 1750) (year 2012) Sources
Carbon Dioxide 280 ppm 390.5 ppm Organic Burning fossil fuels
Decay Deforestation
forest fire Land use charge
volcanoes
Methane 0.70 ppm 1.88 ppm Wetlands Natural gas
Organic decay Oil extraction

Nitrous Oxide 270 ppb 320 ppt Forest Artificial fertilizer
Grasslands Biomass burning
Soil cultivation Burning of fossil

Chlorofluorocarbon 0 850 ppt ---- Refrigerators
Aerosol spray
Cleaning solvents
a. Which of the gasses has the biggest percent growth? How were you able to get that?
Answer: Carbon dioxide has grown the most, increasing to 110,500 PPB and 110,500,000 PPT as one
part of PPM equals 1,000 PPB and 1,000,000 PPT.
b. Which of the following was not found in our atmosphere more than two centuries ago?
Answer: Chlorofluorocarbons were not found in our atmosphere more than two centuries ago because
they were not invented until the 1920’s. CFC’s were used as refrigerants and propellants in 20th century.
c. All the natural gasses have natural sources except for CFC. What does this indicate?
Answer: Unlike any other greenhouse gases, Chlorofluorocarbon gases have no significant natural
resources as according to its anthropogenic resources it indicates that CFC's are human made not
naturally occurring unlike that other greenhouse gas.
3. Answer as sufficiently as possible using 150-200 words per item.
a. Digital Age: Are different social media platforms advantageous or disadvantageous to the
mechanics of family relations?
Answer:
Communication is being replaced by social media as the primary means of communication
among family members. Realities about the positive and adverse consequence of web-based
entertainment and how online entertainment can change family connections.
*The positive effects that social media have on family relationships:
For families with more than two members, social media provides conference calls and video
chats, which will magnify the technology's effect on your family.
*The positive effects of social media on relationships within families:
It allows them to bond over shared interests. It helps keep family members close through shared
hobbies, interests, and other activities. On social media, people who have distant relatives or
friends they haven't seen in a while can see what they're doing.
*The Negative Effects of Social Media on Relationships Between Families:
They come up short on comprehension of one another in various viewpoints. A contention
between kin, couples, or parent-youngster. It prevents the family from learning and modeling
interpersonal relationship skills, communication skills, social cues, and bonds. They have
experienced feelings of being cut off from friends, family, and themselves. It was also said that
this made people more introverted.
b. Genetically modified organisms: What are the eventual repercussions of GMO to biodiversity?
Answer:
GMO aims to address issues with regard to food, security, agriculture, drug production, and
nutrition. However GMO can reduce genetic variety of plants and animals in the ecosystem is
one of the main issues with genetically modified species. Certain genetically modified organisms
(GMOs) have the potential to harm ecosystems of soil and water as well as non-target creatures.
By reducing the insect species that provide food for other types of wild life, including birds, GM
corporations undermine biodiversity.
A Cartagena protocol on biosafety to convention on biological diversity is an international
treaty that seeks to protect biodiversity from possible risks posed by living modified organisms
resulting from modern biotechnology from one country to another.
