DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE

Development in Architecture always goes in parallel with the development

of Culture and Technology. Architecture in its present state evolves from
time unmemorable to the present, and we have reached a point where
evolution in Architecture is transacted to revolution in Architecture.

This latest shift in Architecture transforms Architecture from the Spatial

synthesis to the Synthesis of Energy, Matter and Information. This shift in
Architectural trend seems to support the doctrine that “Architecture is the
mother of all Art”, as the information from all Art forms gets integrated in the
Architecture. Which results in the emergence and growth of new concepts
like Parametricism, Lindenmeier’s Algorithm, Voronoi’s Pattern, etc.
Travelling model technology brings Globalization to day where adaptive
architecture brings it to house

As Le Corbusier says “A House is a machine for Living”. For the design of the
traditional form, Geometrical shapes are applied with its rules to achieve the
best shape for the designer. This kind of thinking and thus determine the
human world in a relatively long period of time created a variety of related
products, all follow this rule mode, adapt to each other within this framework
of "harmony" and "functional" understanding.
Looking wider world, the vast majority of physical nature are not regular geometric
shape, but they are there to follow the laws of nature and the shape, with a potential
optimization and reasonable. Only Mother Nature was able to meet these ever-
changing and flexible forms. In this sense, the most reasonable design should be the
pursuit of the most close to natural appearance.

“Fixed rigid geometry": the lack of flexibility, adaptability

"A simple repetition": the lack of change and diversity

“Completely different ": the lack of logic, order and related

• Digital Technology works to simplify jobs in the field of Architecture, so the
Final Thing which is expected in this system is Efficiency.

• Architecture Work to utilize the Communication and Information

Technology Product in Architectural Designing Process and being a

Making System.

of a set of Technologies . Rather, it is a fundamental shift in culture,
supported and facilitated by technology.”

• The Field of Digital Architecture is Quiet Extensive, not only concerning

the planning and designing the design stage, but including at the product
manufacture stage until the research stage related to Architecture itself.

Digital Architecture is the process of Modelling
either in Physical or Virtual media using

• Computer Modeling

• Programming

• Simulation

• Imaging
• Computer Modeling

It is a computer model based on the software

written by the maker.

This type of modeling takes place strictly within

the rules formulated by the software maker.

Creative limit of the designer is limited to the

software which the designer is using.
•Renderings and walk-throughs of projects are insanely realistic and get better
every day thanks to cross-discipline partnerships like those of architecture
software and powerful graphics developers, Autodesk and NVIDIA.

•Integrated tech, like moisture, temperature, and sound sensors embedded in

building components, create an artificial building intelligence which helps users
of a building to live and work comfortably.

•Building automation ensures optimal performance, efficiency, and ease of

interaction between user, structure, and environment by tracking data points
and manipulating energy usage, air quality, water requirements, etc.

•BIM Modeling helps in accurate access of Building Materials thereby reducing

the Wastage.

•The intelligence in this big data is intricate and informative, leading to ever
more sustainable design and healthy environments as we continue to learn and
synthesize.
• Programming
It is useful for the Architects to establish there creativity outside the boundaries of the
program.

It is done based on the requirement of the Architect and the rules formulated by the
Architect to create the required output.

Most of the famous Architectural firms have there programmers to accommodate there
needs.

•Powerful algorithms and computational development created the latest

movement, parametric design, allow for innovative structural forms we’ve never
built before.
•We no longer have to rely on working with the basic programs given to us and only
design from a kit of parts based on traditional materials and construction methods.
3D printing, for example,
•has been a huge player in freeing us from typical construction of prescriptive forms
and moving us towards low-waste,
•on-site robotic manufacturing of extraordinarily advanced, adaptive, and precise
structures informed by real-life contextual conditions and user needs.

Algorithmic Design

There are certain Algorithm which occurs in nature. These

Algorithms has been interpreted by the scientist and the
mathematician.

These algorithms has been interpreted to create a Architecture

shape out of Nature’s Rule.

Some of the common Algorithms which has been extensively

researched are.
L-System.
Voronoi.
Fractals.
L-System (Lindenmayer System)
Its an algorithm based on the plant growth. This system explains the way
in which trees branch themselves.

This system could also be used in other organism to explain the way ot
grows.
Voronoi Pattern
Voronoi is a way of dividing spaces based upon by the points in the
surface

This Voronoi Pattern has been used to explain the way the cells are
arranged.
• Simulation

In this process a simulation is based on the pre-existing

conditions determined by the Designer and then the
design is done based on that simulation.

This process is highly useful for bottom up approach.

This Process is highly used in the initial stage of the Digital

Architecture.

Initially this process is done in physical and later with the

advent of computers, the whole process is done digitally.

Swarm Intelligence
• IMAGING

In this process the existing structure is

remapped with the electronic devices and the
manipulation is done to the remapped 3d
structure.

The output for this process is mostly in virtual

form.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist,
leading to numbness, muscle atrophy, and weakness in the hand. Night-time wrist splinting is the
recommended treatment for most patients before going into carpal tunnel release surgery. Carpal Skin
is a process by which to map the pain-profile of a particular patient—its intensity and duration—and to
distribute hard and soft materials to fit the patient’s anatomical and physiological requirements, limiting
movement in a customized fashion. The form-generation process is inspired by animal coating patterns
in the control of stiffness variation.
Cell size based on structural integrity
Parametric Design

It is the inter-relation between

two components in the built
structure.

Thereby making the building as

the single body which interacts
with one another.

This inter relation could exit

between the components of the
buildings or between the
environment in which the
building is placed.
