Assignment on Children's Day
Introduction: Children's Day is
a day observed globally to celebrate and honor children around the globe as they are said to bring in
innocent virtues to society. People should realize that
children must be nurtured in safety, education, health, and personal development. Several activities,
events,
and initiatives are depicted on this day with regard to creating more awareness about the rights of ch
ildren and how their lives could be made better.
As children are the future of any
nation, their welfare should be focused upon. This includes protection of children from exploitation,
abuse, or negligence. It also underlines a child's right to education, love, and
care as well as values like equality and respect for diversity. The world's societies mark this
day as the day they pledge to protect and strengthen children.
History of Children's Day: This day of the celebration was instituted in the early part of the 20th
century. A formal Children's Day was first observed in Turkey in the year 1920;
however, it came to be celebrated all over the world with great zest after the United
Nations established a convention. The Universal Children's Day, on November 20th of every year, was
declared by the UN General Assembly in 1954 to foster nations towards the welfare of children
worldwide. However, in other countries, Children's Day is observed on other dates, often because of
significant cultural and historical significance.
For example, in India, Children's Day is on 14th November to honor Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first
Prime
Minister. He was a devoted lover of children and regarded them as the most important national asset
. He, therefore, made immense efforts to promote children's education and welfare throughout
his politically stimulating career.
Children's Rights and Welfare: One of the major goals of Children's Day is to focus the attention of
mankind on issues concerning children's rights. In the year 1989, there was the adoption of
the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child-a comprehensive international legal
document outlining civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of children. It aims at ensuring
children's survival, development, protection, and participation in society.
It calls upon the governments, institutions,
and individual effort to enhance the child's conditions of living. Child labor,
child marriages, quality education for the child, and quality health care for the child are some critical
areas that need attention.
Celebrations and Activities: However, though the means and method of conducting Children's
Day vary from country to country, it is mainly witnessed in schools in the form of cultural programs,
games, and competitions. Children get gifts, candies or sweets; the teachers
may also conduct special lessons to give awareness about children's rights and education.
In many countries, celebrity figures also become part of these Children's Day
events, talking about child protection, education, and rights. In India, this day is
often celebrated through events and workshops and exhibitions prepared by the
government and NGOs and schools. TV
shows are also special and maybe some movies especially for the event. Some other activities that ar
e taken place are tree planting or charity donations.
Challenges children face: Despite the various progresses in many sectors, children in the world still
face big challenges. These include poverty, malnutrition, lack of education access, violence, and
exploitation. Displacement, trauma, and abuse are common problems among children who
live in or have been affected by war. Other such challenges were increased and worsened due to the
COVID-19 pandemic through causing disruptions in education and health and economic disparities
for children in many parts of the world.
Children's day actually is a call-to-action: call for all the governments and international organizations
to pay more heed toward children's problems and work together to eliminate those obstacles which
come in the way of children having a healthy happy healthy life.
Conclusion: Children's Day is actually much beyond just celebration;
it reminds one of collective responsibility to protect nourish and empower
the coming generation. Today, we remember the important role played by children in shaping the
future and the need to invest in their development. Talking about children's rights
and issues concerning them can ensure
that each one is given the privilege of enjoying all earthly pleasures and that collectively,
we can make this world a better one.
And to remain contributors to
that, we must continue being their voice against abuses and exploitations; we need to contribute to t
he coming generation's happiness and make them stronger in the various fields.
