The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were
adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to
end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and
prosperity by 2030.
What are the five basic principles that feed into all SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) embraced the nature and
characteristics of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but produced a more
comprehensive goal for all. We will breakdown the five key elements: People,
Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.
Why is 2030 so important?
That is why the 2030 Agenda is universal, applying to all countries and actors. It
requires all nations to take climate action, reduce unemployment, strengthen
gender equality and promote peaceful societies, to name a few, if the world is to
eradicate poverty and shift into a more sustainable development.
What is the role of the youth in achieving sustainable development goals?
The young generation simply needs to renew, refresh and maintain the current
status of the society. When the youth contributes his ideas and energy to resolve
the social issues, he becomes a capable leader and can also make a difference in
the lives of others. It is vital to raise awareness about the recently adopted 17 SDGs
and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development among youth, build a platform
for discussion, and create the conditions for active engagement.
