Understanding the Task

 Write a letter (minimum 150 words) in response to a given situation or problem.


 The task may involve requesting information, making complaints, seeking permission, or explaining
a situation.

Tips and Strategies

1. Read the question carefully: Understand the task, the recipient, and the purpose of the
letter.
2. Plan your letter: Spend 5-10 minutes brainstorming and organizing your ideas.
3. Use formal language: Avoid contractions, slang, and informal expressions.

e.g. - For example,

etc – and so on

i.e. – That is, or Thus,

4. Structure your letter: Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.


5. Use clear and concise paragraphs: 3-4 paragraphs are usually sufficient.
6. Address the recipient correctly: Use formal titles (e.g., Formal - Dear Sir/Madam, Semi
formal - Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name, Informal - Dear Firstname).
7. Sign off formally: Use Formal - "Yours faithfully", Semiformal - "Yours sincerely.",
Informal – “Yours truly” or Yours affectionately”
8. Proofread: Check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.

Key Language and Expressions

1. Formal greetings and closings


2. Requesting information: "Could you please...", "I would appreciate it if..."
3. Making complaints: "I am writing to express my disappointment...", "I am unhappy with..."
4. Seeking permission: "I would like to request permission...", "Could I have permission..."
