PART 1
TASK 2 : REFLECTIVE REPORT
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This topic aims to give you an overview of communication in general. It highlights
difference definitions of communication as offered by experts in the field. The topic also touches
on types and models of communication. It then zooms in on oral communication, in particular,
the forms it normally takes.
We need to study communication because from the time we were born we communicated
with the world. Even as babies, we babbled, cried, screamed and gurgled our way into our
parents’ hearts. As we grew up, we learnt words and began to communicate through language.
Just like love, communication makes the world go round. Studying about communication
enables us to improve our skills at interacting with people. People who are good communicators
tend to do better in their careers and effective communication is a skill that can be acquired if
you make an effort to study the fundamentals of communication theories and principles.
What is communication ? communication is the most essential part of our lives. We
communicate everyday with different people, at different times, in different ways. We also
communicate with ourselves in our thoughts and with our family, friends, people at work, people
we meet, socially or professionally. We may even need to communicate with a larger audience
such as members of the public.
For this subject OUMH1303 English For Oral Communication, we are told to choose two
speech purposes which is demonstration or reporting speech on the topic ‘ANIMALS’. I choose
to make a reporting speech about Lions vs Tigers : 5 Key Differences.

2.0 PROCESS
After gaining a thorough understanding of the topic, I moved on to the planning phase.
This required me to outline and organize the main points I wanted to make. It took me about two
weeks to build my speech so that it was informative and interesting. I want my audience to
recognize the format of my speech and share information with them. At the beginning of
planning the video, I looked for some suitable topics regarding "ANIMALS" as suggested by my
tutor. After that I have chosen a few topics that for me are quite interesting and easy to convey
and in the end have chosen the title Lions vs Tigers : 5 Keys Differences. After referring to
several websites and videos on Youtube, I made notes and important contents in text form to
make it easier for me to read and memorize the important contents that will be presented in the
video. The time period for the preparation of the reading materials for the video presentation I
estimate is around the beginning of February due to time constraints with essential tasks and
personal affairs. For the text of my speech it took almost two days to prepare.
It took me five days to shoot the video because I had to prepare pictures and infographics
for my video and keep practicing before I was in front of the camera. For the preparation of the
video recording I use a smartphone to record and a personal computer for the process of finding
reference materials and the video editing process. The process of planning and recording the
video takes about a week to get a good video result. There were times when I missed important
content in the middle of video recording, in addition to the absence of a wireless microphone that
caused the audio quality to be unclear and had to re-record some parts of the video.
The recording procedure is a completely separate obstacle. I need to focus on my
delivery, body language, and voice intonation. I record myself practicing in front of the mirror,
then review the footage to identify areas for improvement. I also ask for feedback from peers to
ensure the clarity and effectiveness of my speech. It took me about a week to create the entire
recording, including the visual aids. It took me three days before I was completely satisfied with
this recording.
In today's world, I believe that creativity and innovation are important. Just like in the
video recording task, I have to give an informative speech in the form of a report. Making a
picture and video interlude for my speech will make it more interesting and memorable for the
audience I want to address. To make a video presentation, I have learned that we must be more

creative and innovative in providing visual aids such as slides, additional videos, etc. to attract
the audience.
Creativity is the ability or ability to create, create and produce something new or in a new
form through imagination skills while innovation is a method of finding a way to produce a
better product or service either through modification or improvement. Creativity and originality
are essential for this assignment. I use visual aids to enhance my presentation and make it more
interesting. I have used my own creativity to improve the presentation of my videos by including
video intros, pictures and videos on topics, animations, and sound effects to make my videos
more interesting. This can attract the attention of the audience so that they are not easily bored
and create curiosity to watch the video until the end in addition to being able to cover the
weaknesses that may be present throughout the video recording.
In addition, I need to innovate to get a good video production, such as editing some parts
where the audio is not clear by increasing the volume and eliminating the surrounding noise so
that the audio produced at the end of the video can be heard clearly every word spoken. I also use
several different video applications for the editing process such as Clipchamp, Capcut, and
Power Director so that the produced videos are more interesting because each application has
different advantages and functions.
In retrospect, the process of producing this speech performance was as much a lesson for
me as I hope for the audience. It taught me the importance of careful investigation, careful
planning, and effective delivery when delivering an effective speech. It also emphasizes the
importance of originality and individual expression in captivating the audience

3.0 CONTENT
The following steps are involved in the creation of a video presentation, from concept to
completion: The four steps are planning, structuring, preparing and presenting. The most critical
stage in putting together a good presentation of any kind is planning. I hope to create a reporting
video that will provide information to my audience throughout the planning stages. I decided to
make a video titled "Lion vs Tiger : 5 Key Differences".
Next I started writing and planning the speech. When I write, it helps me remember key
words or important points during the presentation. When preparing a presentation speech, I plan
to do three things as the narrative of my speech which is the introduction, the main title, and the
conclusion. Several obstacles arose during the making of this video presentation. First of all, I
feel apprehensive because this is my first time conducting this kind of video presentation. When
I recorded my presentation, I was a little nervous, and it shows in the video. As a result, I forget
what I was going to say and struggle to make my speech well during the presentation stage
because I need to fully understand what I have written before.
However, I realize that this is a learning process and there is always room for
improvement. From choosing a topic to delivering a speech, the whole process is a learning
process. It has not only enhanced my understanding of the impersonal expression role of
clothing, but also my research, content creation and public speaking abilities. In the future, I
intend to delve deeper into my chosen topics and include more diverse and applicable examples.
I believe that by doing so, my presentation will be more informative and interesting.

4.0 CHALLENGES
During the video creation process, many mistakes were made, and some of these
mistakes made me feel like I could have done better. I couldn't speak spontaneously at first
because I mispronounced something. When I speak on camera, I tend to speak too quickly and
often look at my notes. My delivery is garbled and difficult to understand. However, I was able
to reorganize my presentation, and I am optimistic that in future presentations, I will be able to
adopt a suitable structure for my topic. Therefore, I must make a speech carefully so that my
audience does not become confused or irritated. However, I am confident that with more
practice, I will be able to become a good public speaker. This video recording assignment taught
me how to give a good presentation. Perhaps most significantly, I learned that the way your
information is presented is more important than the material itself. To be a successful presenter,
we must be well prepared for every speech and practice speaking in front of an audience as often
as possible to gain confidence in front of our audience.
Turning to another angle, the main challenge for me must be the shyness and lack of self-
confidence to speak in front of the camera, especially having to speak English. To overcome the
shyness of speaking in front of the camera, I have overcome it by imagining that I am presenting
the topic in front of people I know. This way I can deliver my speech more naturally and
confidently. I also practice speaking in front of the mirror to train myself to speak face to face
with others. While to overcome my English weakness, I practice reading the text I prepared for
my speech and say the words that feel difficult repeatedly to practice the correct pronunciation.
Finally, before starting the video recording process, I watched some previous student video
presentation assignments on YouTube as a reference.
In the recording process, the challenges I often face are forgetting the content I want to
convey and mispronouncing the English language. I had to re-record some parts of the video to
get the best footage. As for the editing process, the challenges I face are related to time
constraints. Due to being tied up with real work and personal affairs, I have to find the right time
to edit the video because the editing process takes a long time to produce a good video. In
addition, I need to ensure that the video produced meets the time period and requirements of the
assignment as well as being interesting to watch.

The last challenge I had to face was about language. I need to use correct grammar in
both writing and video presentation. Since English is not my first language and is rarely used,
sometimes I have to use the help of google translate and Grammarly app for correct translation
and grammar. For me, even though my assignment was not the best, at least I tried my best.
5.0 COLLEAGUE’S VIEWPOINT
After I showed this video to my colleague, he said that my speech video was quite good
and understandable. He thinks the topic I bring meets the requirements of the task given, which
is a speech video in the form of a report with the title "ANIMALS". He said he was interested in
my video presentation where I included audio visual elements and info graphics that could lure
the audience to the end of the video compared to just a video of someone speaking in front of the
camera.
However, my friend said that there are some weaknesses in my video presentation even
though for him the topic and presentation of my video meet the requirements of the assignment.
He thinks the most obvious weakness is from myself without me realizing it which is looking
awkward in front of the camera. From his point of view I was seen struggling to deliver a speech
in English for example my eye movements sometimes I had to look at notes. He also told me to
keep my eyes on the camera while filming with the audience. In addition, the intonation of my
voice is also quite flat and does not emphasize the important contents of the speech which can
cause the audience to feel unfocused.
Then again my colleagues said my video performance was good because I was confident
and looked natural in front of the camera. This happens because even though he sees some
shortcomings in me, I have tried to overcome them by not openly showing feelings of anxiety or
stress. For example, even though I have to speak in English I have tried not to stutter when
speaking because maybe my video presentation will take longer if I keep repeating my words.

6.0 PERSONAL THOUGHTS
In regards to my own perspective, I felt very motivated as I planned and completed this
assignment, including while recording the video. This is because I can recognize my level of
ability and confidence when speaking and delivering my speech. I was able to learn to overcome
weaknesses and increase my self-confidence by trying my best to meet the requirements of the
assignment. With regard to the module, I have understood how to deliver an informative speech
in the form of a report. Apart from that, there are several benefits from this assignment. One of
them is that this assignment helps us develop our communication skills. This is fundamental
because communication is the main key for data transmission, and it should be communicated
accordingly to avoid any misunderstandings.
Despite a few flaws, I am very happy with my presentation assignment. I am the
scriptwriter, speaker, and producer for this project. It gave me the feeling that I had achieved the
self-discipline necessary for efficient learning. There are many advantages to recording this
video presentation. I feel that if I follow his guidance, I will be able to improve my public
speaking abilities in the future. For starters, I continue to increase my strength and confidence in
all transferable talents, such as communication, and information technology in the use of visual
aids and editing software, creativity and invention. These skills have been developed throughout
the duration of this video recording.
I take great pleasure in editing and delivering my best video performances, using various
forms of technology. Furthermore, I was able to think outside the box to come up with fresh
ideas, which is something I have never done before for past presentations. In my opinion, video
recording is not recommended because face-to-face presentation is better than video recording.
Students can present more easily and confidently, making tutoring easier. Furthermore, unlike
video recording, a question and answer session will increase the fun of the presentation. It allows
listeners to watch the speaker's facial expressions, gestures and body language in addition to
hearing information.

7.0 CONCLUSION
Working and studying simultaneously has become the norm in recent generations. No
matter how much work and assignments are given by the university, students must deal with
various obstacles at work. This is what I am experiencing now. As a result, when completing
assignments, I often struggle with time management. There's no denying that I had some
challenges when producing my speech presentation videos. Problems arise for a number of
reasons, including the environment, lack of technical support and failure to complete tasks within
the specified time period. Finally, when I look back on my presentation and the work done, I am
amazed at how much I learned from this one simple activity. Preparing a presentation can be a
stressful, thrilling or exhilarating process if you let it be. Every stage of the video presentation
creation process is important. I now have a better idea of how to plan and edit my own video
presentations.
