"OBSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY INSIDE THE CAMPUS"
Biodiversity refers to the variety of living species on Earth on campus particularly,
including humans, plants, animals, and organisms. There is a high biodiversity or high varieties
of species existing inside the campus due to its environmental factor. The campus is located in
a tropical region or a warm area allowing the species to live, survive and reproduce.
1. There are varieties of plants including fruits and flowers existing on the campus that play a
significant role in bringing benefits to animals and humans. Plants, for instance, help humans by
giving off oxygen, providing food, shade, construction material, medicines and helps prevent
flooding. While these are some of the plants existing inside the campus:
1.1.Rose apple also known as tam-bis is a
fruit commonly eaten by students, that has a
variety of health benefits, it improves
the cardiovascular system and digestion,
controls sugar levels and promotes immunity.
1.2. Rose, a flower symbol of romance and passion also
represents the campus beauty and is used in greeting someone.
1.3. Coral bells are pollinator magnets, it play an essential role
in supporting local wildlife, particularly pollinators such as bees,
butterflies and birds.
1.4. Green thumb is a
therapeutic plant that helps
reduce stress levels which
improves the productivity of the students and improves the
quality of air.
2. Algae are photosynthetic, free-living eukaryotic creatures of
the kingdom Protista. Like other plants, it needs a pigment called
chlorophyll to convert sunlight into food. Algae are a type of plant
that lives mostly in water but can also be found in moist stones,
soils, and woods in association with fungi and animals.
3. Similar to the plants, the
biodiversity of animals is vast,
but there are only two species
that can be seen easily inside the
campus which are cats and
dogs. Cats and dogs are also
effective in keeping the campus
free from pests such as rats,
snakes and insects. These
animals are mammals, they are
considered pets or companion animals. Animals are kept primarily for a person's company or
entertainment rather than as working animals, livestock, or laboratory animals. Cats and dogs
are known for their attractive/cute appearances, intelligence, and relatable personalities.
4. Humans, all people living
today belong to the species
Homo sapiens. The name we
selected for ourselves means
‘wise human’. Humans on the
campus can be classified as
students, teachers and staff.
Humans are the one who
benefits the most from their
environment. Without animals
and plants, humans will not be able to survive. In my observation, human activities are mainly
the cause why there are low biodiversity in different places, such as pollution, climate change
and over-harvesting/hunting.
In conclusion, each species in an ecosystem has a role to play, and their interactions
contribute to the overall stability and balance of the ecosystem. The removal of certain species
can lead to ecological imbalances and negative effects throughout the ecosystem. Therefore,
we should start protecting and preserving the wealth and variety of species, habitats,
ecosystems, and genetic diversity not only on the campus but on the planet. Because each
species plays an integral role in our health, wealth, food, fuel, and services we depend on.
