VOLLEYBALL RULES AND GUIDELINES
I. TEAM COMPOSITION
6 to 12 Players including 1 Libero and 1 Team Captain
1 Coach/Adviser
1 Asst. Coach (Optional)
Only the players recorded on the score sheet may enter the court and play in the match.
Once the coach/adviser and the team captain have signed the score sheet, the recorded
players cannot be changed.
II. PLAYING FORMAT
1. PLAYING RULES – Amateur rules
If the coaches/adviser and/or asst. coaches are not around before the next game, the team
captains will act as coaches but NOT allowed to play.
Only the TEAM/GAME CAPTAIN can approach the referee to clarify calls or decision.
The Coach/Adviser and Team Captain are required to sign the scoresheet.
The players not in play should either sit on their team bench. The coach/adviser and other
team members sit on the bench but may temporarily leave it. The benches for the teams
are located beside the scorer's table, outside the free zone.
Only the team composition members are permitted to sit on the bench during the match
and to participate in the official warm-up session.
It is forbidden to wear objects which may cause injury or give an artificial advantage to
the player.
Players may wear glasses or lenses at their own risk.
2. TO WIN A SET
› In the elimination round, a set is won by the team which first scored fifteen (15) points
using the rally point system. There will be no “deuce” point system.
› In the championship round, the set is won by the team which first scored twenty-one (21)
points using the rally point system. There will be no “deuce” point system.
3. TO WIN A MATCH
› The match is won by the team that wins two (2) out of three (3) sets during the
elimination.
› In the championship, the undefeated team needs to beat its opponent by two (2) sets only
to win the match while the team from the loser’s bracket needs to win (3) sets to win the
match. No TWICE TO BEAT ADVANTAGE is applied.
4. TIME
› Rule of Succession. The next pair of playing teams must be at the venue at least after the
first set of the on-going or preceding match. Defaulting time is three (3) minutes after the
preceding match.
› A team that is declared INCOMPLETE for the set or for the match, loses the set or the
match. The opponent team is given the points, or the points and the sets, needed to win the
set or the match.
5. UNIFORM
› Each player must be in official color code of the day (at least the shirt).
› Coaches/Advisers and Asst. Coaches – each must observe dress code during the game.
They may be in school’s PE uniform or in uniform similar to the players (shorts and
slippers are not allowed).
6. REQUIREMENTS OF CONDUCT
› Participants must abide by the “Official Volleyball Rules”.
› Participants must accept referees' decisions with sportsmanlike conduct, without
disputing them. In case of doubt, clarification may be requested only through the game
captain.
› Participants must refrain from actions or attitudes aimed at influencing the decisions of
the referees or covering up faults committed by their team.
› Participants must behave respectfully and courteously in the spirit of FAIR PLAY, not
only towards the referees, but also towards other officials, the opponent, team-mates and
spectators.
› Communication between team members during the match is permitted.
III. SYSTEM OF ELIMINATION
› The SINGLE ELIMINATION FORMAT is implemented.
IV. TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
› A technical committee will be formed to receive/accept any appeal or protest that may be
raised by any team regarding violations on the rules and regulations of the game, and may
decide on the appeal/protest based on the merit of evidence presented.
› Appeal/Protest regarding violations on the rules and regulations must be submitted to the
committee within thirty (30) minutes after the game.
