4. On the grid below, draw triangle ABC whose vertices are A ( -2, 0 ) , B ( 3, - 2 ) and C ( 4, 4 ) .

SECTION 11 (50 MARKS)
Answer any five question in this section in spaces provided.
17. Three business patners Bela, Joan and Trinity contributed Kshs. 180,000, Ksh 120,000 and
Kshs. 240,000 respectively to start a business. They agreed to share the profits as follows:
30% to be shared equally
30% to be shared in the ratio of their contributions
40% to be retained for the running of the business.
If at the end of the year, the business realized a profit of Ksh1,350,000
Calculate:
a) The amount of money retained for running the business at the end of the year.
(1 mark)

b) The difference between the amounts received by trinity and Bela.

c) Express Joan’s share as percentage of the total amount of money shared between the
three partners. (3 marks)

19. A sales person is paid a commission of 3 % on goods worth over Ksh 100000. She is also
paid a monthly salary of Ksh 12000.In a certain month , she sold 360 handbags at Ksh
1500 each .
(i) Calculate the sales persons earnings that month (3 marks)

The following month ,the sales woman’s monthly salary was increased by 10% . His
total earnings that month were Ksh 23700 . Calculate ;
(ii) The total amount of money received from the sales of handbags that month
(5 marks)

(iii) The number of handbags sold that month .

20. From the kitchen K of AGHS the administration office A is 80 m on a bearing of 0550 . The
computer lab C is 55 m on a bearing of 3100 from administration A. The sanatorium S is west of
the computer lab C and directly north of the bakery B. Given that the bakery is 66 m and on a
bearing of 3130 from the kitchen K.
(a) Draw a scale diagram to represent the relative positions of the 5 points at AGHS.
(scale 1 cm represent 10 m)

(b) Use the scale diagram in (a) above to find

(i) The distance and bearing of the computer lab C from the bakery B.
(2 marks)

(ii) The distance and bearing of kitchen K from the computer lab C.
(2 marks)

(iii)The distance of the administration A from the bakery B.

21. The figure below shows a cross –section of a solid bridge which is 10m long , 5m wide and 4
m high.

(i) Calculate the area of the semi-circle in m 2 . (3 marks)

(ii) Find the surface area of the face ABCD m 2 . (4 marks)

(iii) From the cross-section in (ii) above, obtain the volume of the solid
bridge in m3 . (3 marks)

22. The table below shows the measurements of a coffee plantation in meters made by a surveyor in
his field book. Use AB=300m as the baseline.
(a) Draw a scale diagram of the coffee plantation. Use a scale of 1cm to represent 25 m.

23. a)Use a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct quardrilateral PQRS. PR = 6 cm.

b) Locate vertex Q of the quadrilateral PQRS such that < 𝑅𝑃𝑄 = 60° and < 𝑅𝑃𝑄 = 45°
Complete triangle PQR and hence measure length PQ. ( 5 marks)

c)Diagonal QS, which is 10 cm long, intersects with diagonal PR at a right angle.


Complete the quadrilateral PQRS. (5 marks)

24. A certain wholesale shop, June bought 3 skirts and 8 blouses at Ksh 2860. She also bought 4
skirts and 2 blouses of the same quality at another wholesaler and paid Ksh 780 less.
(a) Let the cost of one skirt be x and that of one blouse be y and form two equations to
represent the information above. (2marks)

(b) Solve the equation in (a) above to determine cost of a skirt and a blouse. ( 4 marks)

(c) June runs a retail shop and she sold each skirt at 525 and each blouse at Ksh 250.
Calculate the percentage profit after the sales of all the skirts and blouses. ( 4 marks)
