1. Introduction
The “Healthcare Management System” is a web-based application aimed at streamlining the
administration, scheduling, and monitoring of healthcare services. The project utilizes HTML
and CSS for the frontend and Express.js, Node.js, and MongoDB for the backend
development. This system allows hospitals and clinics to manage patient data, appointments,
and health records efficiently. The system’s goal is to improve accessibility and accuracy in
patient care by leveraging modern web technologies.
2. Study of Existing System
Currently, many hospitals and clinics operate with a mix of manual and outdated digital
systems to manage patient records and appointments. Commonly used software includes
MedTech, AthenaHealth, and Cerner. However, these systems are often costly and require
significant training, leading to inefficiencies in small and mid-sized healthcare facilities. This
project aims to create an affordable and user-friendly alternative by using open-source
technologies.
3. Rationale
With the increasing demand for digital solutions in healthcare, especially in the wake of
global health challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a pressing need for an
efficient and cost-effective system. This system is necessary for smaller healthcare providers
to ensure quick access to patient data, better appointment scheduling, and overall improved
healthcare service delivery.
4. Feasibility Study
Technical Feasibility:
The technologies chosen for this project, such as Node.js and MongoDB, are widely used in
modern web development. These technologies are scalable, support rapid development, and
allow integration with various third-party services.
Economic Feasibility:
As the project is developed using open-source tools, the cost of development is significantly
reduced. The system can be deployed with minimal infrastructure costs, making it suitable
for small to mid-sized healthcare providers.
Operational Feasibility:
The system is designed to be user-friendly and does not require extensive training for
healthcare staff. A focus on intuitive UI and accessibility ensures easy adoption in healthcare
settings.
5. Objectives
1. Develop a robust web-based system for managing patient records .
2. Provide a secure and scalable backend using Node.js and MongoDB.
3. Enable seamless communication between healthcare providers and patients.
4. Ensure data privacy and compliance with healthcare regulations.
6. Methodology/Planning of Work
Step 1: Requirement Analysis
Understanding the functional and non-functional requirements of the healthcare providers.
Step 2: System Design
Designing the system architecture using HTML/CSS for frontend and Node.js with
MongoDB for backend services. Key modules include:
• Patient Management
• Appointment Scheduling
• Medical Records
Step 3: Development
• Frontend development with HTML/CSS.
• Backend development using Express.js and Node.js for server-side scripting.
• Database implementation with MongoDB for secure data storage.
Step 4: Testing
Unit testing for each module followed by system testing for overall functionality and
security.
Step 5: Deployment
Deploy the system on a cloud server for easy access.
7. Facilities Required for Proposed Work
Software Requirements:
• IDE: Visual Studio Code
• Backend: Node.js, Express.js
• Database: MongoDB
• Frontend: HTML, CSS
Hardware Requirements:
• A system with minimum 8GB RAM
• Cloud server for deployment
