Dear Abelardo,

I am writing to express my thoughts and suggestions regarding the recent editorial titled
"Expediting OFW Deployment Process," published on [Date of Publication]. Firstly, I commend
the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for its initiative to streamline and digitize processes
aimed at protecting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). This endeavor, led by Secretary Hans
Leo Cacdac, underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the welfare and rights of
our modern-day heroes.

The editorial rightly points out the challenges faced by OFWs due to bureaucratic red tape and
cumbersome procedures, which not only delay their deployment but also encroach upon their
valuable family time. The efforts to digitize transactions and reduce paperwork through initiatives
like the DMW Mobile App are commendable steps towards addressing these issues. However, I
believe there are additional measures that can further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness
of the deployment process.

First and foremost, it is essential to continue collaborating with the Department of Information
and Communications Technology (DICT) to leverage technology in improving the accessibility
and user experience of digital platforms. This includes ensuring that the DMW Mobile App is
user-friendly, accessible to all OFWs, and equipped with features that facilitate seamless
transactions and real-time assistance.

Moreover, while the increase in OFW deployment and remittances underscores the significance
of overseas employment for many Filipinos, it is imperative to address the underlying reasons
driving individuals to seek employment abroad. As mentioned in the editorial, labor export
should be viewed as a temporary solution to unemployment and complemented by efforts to
create sustainable livelihood opportunities domestically.
Furthermore, I urge the DMW to prioritize the protection of vulnerable groups, particularly
women who constitute a significant portion of OFWs. Enhancing support services, providing
comprehensive pre-departure orientation, and strengthening partnerships with destination
countries to uphold the rights of female OFWs are crucial steps in this regard.

Lastly, I echo Secretary Cacdac's vision of creating a sanctuary where every OFW feels valued,
respected, and empowered. This necessitates not only efficient administrative processes but
also a holistic approach that addresses the socio-economic, psychological, and legal needs of
OFWs and their families.

In conclusion, I applaud the DMW's commitment to modernizing and expediting the deployment
process for OFWs. By embracing innovation, strengthening protections, and promoting
sustainable alternatives to overseas employment, we can ensure that our modern-day heroes
are equipped with the support and resources they need to thrive both at home and abroad.

Thank you for considering my input on this important matter.

Sincerely,

Xiandel Zeo Mendoza
