1.1 Are there any relevant insights or observations regarding the halt or slowdown
The research on electric powered aircraft never stopped nor slowed
down, during the past years, there has been a rise in the
development and use of electric aircraft because of environmental
concerns. Within the next years, it is anticipated that a significant
percentage of aircraft will be made up of electric aircrafts. Although
electric aviation presents numerous environmental benefits, and
research into the design and development of efficient electric
airplanes seems to be headed in the right direction, it is still
confronted with several technological and regulatory challenges. The
advancement in the state of art battery technology could only
achieve energy densities between 400 and 600 Wh/kg. This value is
still significantly lower than the minimum 750 Wh/kg projected by
the various studies. There are concepts of different proposed
batteries with 1000 Wh/kg energy densities to drive the aircraft.
However, no practical application of this battery technology exists
despite its high theoretical energy density. This makes it difficult to
P1 prove how soon such a non-existing technology can be realized.
ALTHOUGH THERE WAS ONGOING SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH AND
DEVELOPMENT IN ELECTRIC-POWERED AIRCRAFT, THERE WERE
CHALLENGES AND LIMITATIONS THAT SLOWED WIDESPREAD
ADOPTION.
P2
Electric-powered aircraft research is a growing field, with companies
investing to reduce carbon emissions and costs. However, challenges
persist due to battery technology limitations, impacting range and
payload capacity. Innovation in materials and energy storage
technologies is needed. Projects focus on regional and urban air
mobility routes, and collaboration among stakeholders and
regulatory bodies is crucial. Public perception and environmental
P3 incentives also play a role in adoption.

- Battery technology poses significant challenges for electric aircraft,
with limitations in energy density and weight impacting the range
and payload capacity. Additionally, the development of essential
infrastructure, including charging stations and power distribution
systems, is both costly and time-consuming. The adoption and
implementation of electric aircraft face hurdles stemming from
technological, economic, and regulatory complexities, which may
impede their integration into the aviation industry. Addressing these
multifaceted challenges is essential for the successful advancement
of electric aviation, requiring collaborative efforts across sectors to
overcome obstacles and pave the way for sustainable aerial
P6 transportation.
Currently there is a little slow down in terms of research done on
electrical aviation aircrafts due to the problem of the mass to the
power ratio where they cannot fly long distance flights because the
weight of the aircraft, the passengers on board and cargo. So these
are the current restraints for electrical aviation in regard of flying
long distance because they are not able to achieve long flights over
the oceans but there are current research being done to convert
reciprocating engines to hydrogen engines to power aircrafts for
short distance flight and cross country in terms of cross borders.
P7
Electric aircraft are actively addressing various challenges, including
those related to battery technology, safety considerations, and
compliance with air travel regulations. However, the market has yet
to achieve the level of maturity required for widespread commercial
viability. Technological advancements are still in progress to meet
the intricate demands of this sector. Debates persist regarding the
cost-benefit ratio, with safety concerns arising from factors such as
malfunctions in extreme weather conditions (rain, icing), especially in
emergency situations. The critical aspects encompass the battery's
life cycle, cost-effectiveness, stability of energy output, weight
considerations, and maintenance requirements.

1.2 What are the factors that contributed to the cessation, such as technical limitations, funding constraints, battery tech
Electric aviation has the potential to significantly reduce the aviation
industry's carbon footprint. However, electric aviation's
development and technical viability are highly dependent on
technological advancement in three significant areas: battery
technology, electric motor technology, and efficient integrated
airframe/propulsion design technology. These three technological
areas are all in their infancy in research which introduces a high
degree of uncertainty in achieving feasible electric air travel and
limits the basis of futuristic electric aircraft concepts on assumptions.
Therefore, understanding and addressing the technological
challenges of electric aviation is crucial in the electrification process
of the aviation industry. Range - Distance and range are limited.
Electric planes do well with shorter range flights such as city to city
or region to region mainly because of their battery power.
Endurance Limitations - batteries for electric airplanes contain less
energy per kilogram than traditional airplane fuels, which makes
them too heavy to power over longer distances. Regulatory
obstacles - The FAA and EASA has yet to create any clear guidelines
for electric planes. Hybrid and electric planes fall under the
Advanced Air Mobility category, which does not yet currently have
any concrete regulatory framework.

SEVERAL REASONS RESULTED IN THE CHALLENGES AND LIMITATIONS
IN THE STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRIC-POWERED
AIRCRAFT. TECHNICAL LIMITS, COSTS, BATTERY TECHNOLOGY
ISSUES, RANGE LIMITS AND REGULATORY OBSTACLES.
P2
Electric aircraft rely on batteries for energy storage, but current
technology has limitations that affect their range and payload
capacity. These include lower energy density, weight, charging
infrastructure, range, charging time, and environmental concerns.
Lithium-ion batteries have lower energy density than liquid fuels,
limiting the aircraft's range. Additionally, the weight of the battery
pack impacts efficiency and performance. Charging infrastructure is
not as widespread as traditional refueling stations, limiting flexibility.
Electric aircraft are best suited for short regional flights, and charging
time can be longer than with liquid fuels. Environmental concerns
also affect the production and disposal of batteries.

Cost poses a formidable barrier to the widespread adoption of
electric aircraft, particularly in the realm of commercial aviation,
where the development can incur substantial expenses. Overcoming
this economic challenge requires strategic planning and investment
to make electric aviation financially viable. Furthermore, regulatory
hurdles constitute another significant impediment. Adapting existing
regulations and formulating safety standards tailored to electric
aircraft demand meticulous attention and may entail a protracted
timeframe. The regulatory framework must evolve in tandem with
technological advancements to ensure a seamless integration of
electric aviation into existing air transportation systems. Additionally,
the dominance of fossil-fuel-powered planes in the aviation industry
directs substantial focus and resources towards traditional research
and development. Electric aircraft, despite their potential, may not
receive commensurate attention. Elevating the prominence of
research and development in electric aviation is crucial to fostering
innovation and addressing the challenges associated with
transitioning from conventional to electric aircraft. This necessitates
concerted efforts to redirect resources and expertise towards
sustainable aviation solutions. Only through collective commitment
can the aviation industry surmount these obstacles and propel
electric aircraft into a mainstream, environmentally conscious mode
of transportation.
P6
I would say the main thing affecting is the climate and the type of
lithium battery used in the aircraft, you can have engines made from
hydrogen but the amount affecting storage or recharging those
batteries during flight is the most important thing. So the cargo in
the flight as well as the noise we can generate the noise into
electricity to charge those batteries so there is a bunch of
approaches that can be done to solve this problems but I would say
most effective is climate and the power of the batteries in the
aircraft that affect the range of flight. In terms of electrical aviation
there is a lot to be done in order to meet certain targets because
certain demands will be needed to achieve those targets and
currently on the right step in regard with the hydrogen engine and
airbus turning the engines into using hydrogen to power them. So if
we can convert technically in to a green free environment, that
means we can go to really charge those batteries so if we can get up
that ratio between the batteries and the use of hydrogen as a fuel I
think the electric aircrafts can go further distance because in the end
we are all trying to make the planet a better place.
P7
The advancement of technology in crucial areas such as battery
development, safety protocols, and workforce considerations
necessitates further research for comprehensive understanding and
refinement. Addressing these technological facets requires an
infusion of financial resources, prompting the need for investor
confidence in the viability of their investments. Consequently,
collaboration between the private sector and government, facilitated
through government funding or strategic partnerships, becomes
imperative to foster innovation and progress. It is essential to
recognize that the evolution of laws and regulations governing these
technologies will naturally follow suit as the technological landscape
and market conditions mature to a practical state. Therefore, a
symbiotic relationship between technological advancements,
financial support, and regulatory frameworks is integral to realizing
the full potential of these innovations.

Range, operating speed and payload are all related, everyone has its
effect to another. The specific energy of today's batteries is far from
what the aircraft need. We are getting in the region of 200 watts
[hours] per kilogram, where we would need 1,000 or 1,500. So, we
are far from what we would need for a large aircraft. Smaller battery
capacity limits the range of any aircraft. It will also depend on the
size and configuration of the aircraft. The more specific energy
required, the bigger ang heavier the battery will be. The effect will be
reduced range, speed and payload of the aircraft. Another factor to
consider that reduces the range is the spare battery charge for re-
routing, eventual missed approach on landings, and enough charge
to fly at alternate route. But with the recent technology such as the
magnix 650 that is powering the Eviation alice, it has a range of 250

3.1 Air Pollution:
Air travels produces 915 Million tons of CO2 every year or 2.5% of
global emissions or 12% emissions from transport sector. Using
electric powered aircraft allows the use of energy from renewable
sources and reduces carbon footprint. Electric airplanes produce
fewer carbon emissions than traditional powered aircraft, helping to
reduce the environmental impact of aviation

of carbon emissions from electric aircraft underscores their potential
as a pivotal component in fostering sustainable aviation practices
and addressing pressing environmental concerns on a global scale.

Annually, air travel contributes to the emission of 915 million tons of
CO2, constituting 2.5% of global emissions and representing 12% of
the emissions emanating from the transport sector. The adoption of
electric-powered aircraft offers a pivotal solution, enabling the
utilization of energy derived from renewable sources and,
consequently, mitigating the carbon footprint associated with
aviation. In comparison to their traditional counterparts, electric
airplanes demonstrate a substantial reduction in carbon emissions,
thereby playing a significant role in diminishing the environmental
impact attributed to the aviation industry.

3.2 Noise Pollution:
An electric motor is quieter than an engine that combusts fuel. Only
the rotors or propellers or fans produces noise on takeoff. But
electric propulsion will be quieter when taxiing and cruising. Electric

aircraft, as they do not lose energy through the conversion of fuel to
mechanical energy so there will be lower maintenance cost and
cheaper per hour operating expenses. Limited range: Electric
airplanes have a limited range, typically around 124 miles on a single
charge when fully loaded, due to the limited energy capacity of
current batteries. Longer charging times: Electric airplanes take
longer to charge than traditional powered aircraft take to refuel,
which can limit their practicality for commercial us. Higher upfront

Electric aircraft present a compelling economic proposition through

electricity compared to traditional aviation fuels. This financial
advantage stems from the energy efficiency of electric propulsion
systems, translating into lower operating expenses. The economic
viability extends beyond airlines, influencing market dynamics,
pricing competitiveness, and overall industry sustainability.
Moreover, the shift to electric aviation aligns with environmental
goals, significantly reducing carbon footprints and addressing climate
change concerns. In essence, the cost advantages associated with
electric aircraft not only enhance the financial health of operators

4. What are the challenges that need to be addressed in order to make lightweig
Electric aviation is an area of development that has the potential to
revolutionize the aviation industry. The benefits of electric airplanes
mean that they are a growing area of interest in the aviation
industry, with many companies investing in the technology and
developing new aircraft. While there are still some limitations to
electric airplanes, such as limited range and longer charging times,
these are likely to be addressed as battery technology improves. The
biggest challenge in electrifying propulsion is energy storage. Current
batteries have a fraction of the energy density of aviation fuels. That
is why all-electric propulsion is starting with small, short-range air
taxis with typically an hour’s flight endurance. Even hybrid-electric
aircraft are starting with shorter-range regional aircraft. There are
higher-performing battery chemistries than today’s lithium-ion
designs, but they have yet to be commercialized. However, there are
still environmental considerations to take into account. The
production of batteries and electric motors requires the use of rare
earth metals, which can have environmental impacts. In addition,
the electricity used to charge the batteries may come from non-
renewable sources, which can also have environmental impacts. The
future of electric aviation looks bright, with the potential for reduced
carbon emissions, lower operating costs, and reduced noise. As the
industry continues to develop, we can expect to see more electric
airplanes in operation, particularly in the air taxi, local travel and
cargo transport markets.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY, THE PERFORMING OF THE AIRCRAFT
DEPENDS ON THE BATTERY TECHNOLOGY.
P2
For me Electric-powered aircraft are a promising but complex
project, requiring high-density batteries, robust charging
infrastructure, lightweight components, safety standards, cost
management, and noise pollution reduction. Addressing these
challenges requires collaboration from governments, aviation
P3 companies, and stakeholders.

CHALLENGES__ INCLUDES BATTERY TECHNOLOGY, CHARGING

P4
Creating a lightweight electric powered aircraft possess several
challenges that need to be address to make reality challenges such
as energy density of batteries, batteries are currently the primary
energy storage solution for electric aircraft and proving their energy
density is crucial. Researchers are working to develop advance
battery technologies with high energy to weight ratio to extend flight
ranges.
P5
The development of lightweight electric-powered aircraft is
confronted with a series of challenges that necessitate thorough
consideration to actualize their feasibility. Among these challenges is
the energy density of batteries, as they presently serve as the
primary energy storage solution for electric aircraft. Addressing this
challenge requires concerted research efforts to enhance the
energy-to-weight ratios of batteries, thereby extending the flight
capabilities of electric aircraft. In addition to my own research, it was
also stated that the comprehensive charging of infrastructure is
needed to be encompass by airport and facilities for it to be
accommodated in a wider scale.
P6
There can be a number of implications I think mainly is the powering
of the batteries recharging those batteries mid-air will be a challenge
and providing that there is no electrical failure of recharging those
batteries and providing back up for those charging. Certain parts
should be really they should invest in making batteries that are really
lightweight as you can see from the Eviation Alice, if the aircraft is
4000 kilograms 60% is already the battery, so if we can reduce the
way those batteries are charged in a way to give long haul flights the
most advantage way of conserving energy without converting the
energy loss by the plane by converting it to power that would be the
main challenge the researcher or the engineering team of the
aircrafts will face and I would say certain countries should accept this
form of electrical aircrafts and not look at it as a risk because they
might think there will be a higher chance of failure during flights so a
lot of testing has to be done to withstand certain weather
conditions, and in if there’s an emergency what can happen will the
plane just fall off because those things can happen so there must be
safety standards set to trust if the pilots in the plane or its going to
be electrically maneuvered from base using satellite and then
transfer goods electrically without any human being on board if they
can do that it will be perfect so that if there is an risk during flight
there will be no lives lost, but the main challenge will be having test
runs a lot to battle the climate and to make sure that those planes
can last long and can be repowered and those batteries can be
P7 charged all aboard.
Designing a lightweight electric aircraft introduces a myriad of
challenges necessitating meticulous consideration for actualization.
A primary concern revolves around the energy density of batteries,
currently the predominant energy storage solution for electric
aviation. The resolution of these challenges is imperative for
establishing the practicality of electric aircraft. Researchers are
actively engaged in the exploration of advanced battery technologies
characterized by an elevated energy-to-weight ratio, with the
objective of extending flight ranges and optimizing overall
performance. However, surmounting these challenges and propelling
electric aviation into mainstream acceptance demands a
comprehensive and systematic approach. Adequate funding stands
as a cornerstone, supporting sustained research initiatives and
fostering the evolution of state-of-the-art battery technologies.
Concurrently, the development of robust infrastructure, exemplified
by an extensive network of charger stations, is paramount for the
seamless integration of electric aircraft on a global scale. n summary,
the realization of the potential inherent in electric aircraft
necessitates the orchestrated alignment of financial support,
ongoing research endeavors, infrastructure development, and a
patient allocation of time
