Week 5: Data Analytics Skills and Tools
Playing the role of a company manager, I leveraged data analysis to uncover actionable insights
to drive business excellence. By analyzing sales data from 2020 to 2021, I identified key
geographic and demographic trends, seasonal patterns, and category-specific performance
drivers, aggregating into a clear Customer Analysis Dashboard (Figure 1), enabling targeted
strategies to maximize returns.

Geographically, states like Texas and California were top revenue contributors, while regions
like the South outperformed targets. To capitalize on these findings, efforts will center on high-
performing regions, ensuring optimized inventory and targeted marketing. Demographically, the
30-50 age group generates the highest revenue. Personalized campaigns and premium product
offerings tailored to their preferences will further strengthen engagement and sales, while
younger (<20) and older (>60) age groups remain secondary priorities.
Seasonal insights reveal December as a peak sales month. As December is approaching, I want
to explore the best-selling products in this holiday season; hence, I subsequently identify “Which
categories sell the most in December?”. The bar chart clearly indicates that Mobiles & Tablets
and Men’s Fashion performed best, followed by Appliances and Women’s Fashion. Therefore, I
will stock high-demand categories and allocate additional resources to secondary categories,
ensuring readiness for the holiday season and prevent stockouts.
Besides, I notice higher discount percentages positively correlate with the increased quantity
ordered, but beyond a certain point, this relationship diminishes. Hence, I would focus on non-
discount strategies, like bundling appliances with complementary items (cookware sets) and
offer value-added services (free installation), to push sales.
Conclusively, this shows how data analysis and effective visualization helps me focus on top-
performing segments and products and allocate resources effectively to drive sustained business
growth.
