Strips do not need to be cut to the exact lengths shown below; these are the minimum lengths for each strip. Strips can be cut longer
because eventually they get trimmed down. All strips are sized with the intention of some trimming. (See page 4, Block Assembly.) For
pieces longer than 42", cut WOF strips first, then, placing right sides together, sew the strips using a vertical seam to make one long strip. Press
the seam to one side rather than open to make a stronger seam. Sub-cut the strip unit according to the cutting instructions.

If WOF is not specified, the strip can be cut from a single WOF strip or your remaining yardage. Cut the pieces in the order listed. For example,
for Baby Color 1, cut (and then sub-cut) 2 - 3" x WOF strips to get the c and b pieces, then cut 2 - 2" x WOF strips to get the f pieces.

BLOCK ASSEMBLY Fig. 1

Reflections is comprised of 4 large triangle blocks. The measurements

of these blocks are identical; however, based on how the fabric is
arranged, they can be laid out differently.
BLOCK 3
1. To make each block, follow the color layout in the diagram. f
Fold a piece a in half and form a crease down the middle.
Do the same with a piece b. Fig. 2 TIP! Crease all of your
e
strips before you start sewing to save time.
d
2. Place pieces a and b right sides together, line up the creases, c
pin into place, and sew together. Fig. 3
b
3. For Blocks 1 and 3, press the seams toward the added strip a

BLOCK 4
BLOCK 2
of fabric. For Blocks 2 and 4, press the seams toward piece a.
This will help the seams of these blocks nest together during f e d c b a a b c d e f
the final assembly.
a
4. Re-crease the unit created in Steps 1-3 if needed and repeat
b
the process, this time adding a piece c. Fig. 4
c
5. Continue creasing each piece, lining up the creases, pinning d
right sides together, and sewing for pieces d, e, and f. Fig. 5
e
6. Once all pieces are sewn together, line up the 450 guideline on
a ruler with the base of piece f. Trim the extra fabric on one side f
of the block. Move the ruler along the cut line if the block is BLOCK 1
longer than the ruler. Continue to line up the 450 guideline with
crease
the base of the strips. Fig. 6
Fig. 2 Fig. 3
7. Line up the ruler on the other side and trim the other side sew
of the block.

8. Repeat Steps 1-7 for Blocks 2-4, referring to the colors in the crease
layout diagrams above.

QUILT ASSEMBLY Fig. 7

1. Place Block 3 on top of Block 2 with right sides together. Using

either pins or glue basting, secure where the seams meet. Since BLOCK 3
Blocks 2 and 3 were pressed with seams going in opposite
directions, they should nest together nicely. Fig. 7

2. Sew the two blocks together and press the seam open.

TIP! Since the seam contains multiple intersections, it is the

BLOCK 2
perfect time to press it with steam and a tailor’s clapper. For more
information, check out bit.ly/tailorsclapperinfo.

3. Repeat Steps 1-2, placing Block 4 on top of Block 1 with right

sides together. Fig. 8

4. Once the two block units are sewn and pressed, place one unit
on top of the other, right sides together, and line up each of the
seam intersections carefully. Fig. 9

BLOCK 4
5. Sew the two units together and press the final seam open.

CUT TING DIAGRAMS Quilts are not to scale.

When picking colors, you will achieve the most dynamic composition by choosing a clear range of saturation or hue—meaning light, medium
light, medium dark, and dark. You can pick different prints and fabrics in each color category, but they need to read as the same. For example,
the first two swatches below read as the same saturation and hue; however, because of the scale of the print, the third swatch looks very differ-
ent and would be best suited in a different color category.
