HOAI: Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Daily Story Show. I’m Hoai.

I will accompany all of

you to this show today. Maybe we ever have to face Anxiety many times. It may be
advantages or disadvantages which depend on many elements. To Understand learning to
face fear and make clear about fear, welcome Miss Sophie Vu. She is a Psychologist with 20
years of experience. And 2 students..
Nice to meet you. miss Sophia. Can you tell a little about yourself?
Shophie: gioi thieu xi
Hoai: how about u: can u tell to audience, who are u and where are you form
Lien: Hi everyone, I’m Lien. Now I’m a student at USSH university. I am here today to talk
about my story . Hope we will have a great time together!
Ngan: gioi thieu ten den tu truong nao nhieu tuoi
Hoai: I’ll start with fear. Miss Sophie can you share to audience about Anxiety.
Sophie: (Fact: 1 in every 8 people in the world live with a mental disorder ! => In 2019, “1 in
every 8 people, or 970 million people around the world were living with a mental disorder,
with anxiety and depressive disorders” from WHO.
Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. Many people worry about things such as health,
money, or family problems. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or
fear. Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness and worry, usually generalized and unfocused as an
overreaction to a situation that is only subjectively seen as menacing.
Hoai: Why does it happen?
Sophie: Everyone’s experiences of anxiety are different, and the causes of anxiety can be
complicated. Social and environmental factors can contribute to the development and
maintenance of anxiety and affect our ability to engage effectively in social situations. These
social and environmental factors can include childhood trauma, social isolation, negative life
events, stress relating to work or education, physical or mental health problems, and social
and societal pressures.vi Gender can also play a part. Women are almost twice as likely to
experience anxiety as men.
Hoai: How people can recognize and approach your fears. Can you give to audience some
sign?
Sophie: A person can find the source of his or her own fears by doing some self-evaluation
and also by talking to a professional. Asking yourself questions such as: “Why am I afraid?”
or “What is causing my anxiety?” will lead you in the right direction. Perhaps we are afraid
of changing careers, breaking off a relationship, or having children. However, what is the
true fear lurking underneath each one of these scenarios? Why are we afraid of breaking off
a relationship? It may be because we have a fear of being alone.
Hoai: it’s so clearly. Thank you for your sharing. Now we going to the special guess. Miss
Lien, have you ever face fear or anxiety, that you remembered until now
LIEN : I have a fear that it has obsessed me until now. Fear is a powerful emotion. It is
helpful at some times; however, it is a huge obstacle at other times. My biggest fear in life is
public speaking. As far as I know, the fear of public speaking is considered the most popular
fear in today's society. Even the best speakers in the world may experience this fear, even
just a little. This fear actually hurts others as much as it hurts me. That's because this fear
prevents me from understanding the passion and my talent, so I can't share with others.
Hoai: What did you do in that time?
Lien: I was advised to join a club, workshop or volunteer in the community so that I could
have more opportunities to practice public speaking. I feel self- conscious when I see myself
as inferior to everyone around me. So I come here to seek help and advice from an expert.
Hoai: oh, if you didn’t tell this story, I never thought a beautiful girl stand here , she has
gone through a terrible time. How about Ngan. When was you face a anxiety. And how did
you pass?
Ngan: I have a fear that I still can't overcome. When I was 12 years old, I started learning to
swim. In the first days of swimming, my teacher let me wear a life jacket with two hand
buoys to avoid drowning. During the learning process, I learned steps to practice swimming
very well. After a month of classes, I had a swim test to have my floaters removed. So I
passed the test, I no longer need to wear a life jacket and life jacket when swimming. At the
lesson, when I stepped into the swimming pool, I was overwhelmed with the pool being
more than one meter eighty deep. I started swimming for a while then lost my footing and
drowned. I was very scared and scared. Luckily, the teacher brought me to shore safely. But
I can't forget that feeling. Even now, thinking about swimming underwater makes me feel
worried and scared. I tried swimming again many times but I couldn't do it.

Hoai: thank you miss Ngan. To be honest, if anxiety isn't managed effectively, It will lead to a
mentality of individuals, especially children. So Miss Sophie, can you show some way to face
fears?
Shophia: Avoiding fears only makes them worse. But, gradually exposing yourself to the
thing you’re scared of can help you maintain control and overcome your fear.
If you face your fear you might find that it isn’t as scary as you thought. For example, if you
panic about getting into a lift one day, it’s best to get back into a lift the next day.
Many people struggle with ‘must’ or ‘should’ thoughts. This means they believe in thoughts
like life should be perfect, that they should always be calm and that strong people never
struggle.
Thinking this way causes more fear and anxiety in the long run. So, remember that life is
messy and you don’t have to be critical of yourself all the time.
Sharing your fears can make them less scary. Try talking to someone about what you’re
feeling.
Finally, give yourself a treat when you achieve something despite being afraid. You could:
- treat yourself to a massage
- have a meal out
- buy a new book or another little gift that makes you happy
- watch a film
Liên: oh thanks for all your advices, all of your words helps me to realize that I need to
spend more time to upgrade myself and focus on what I can do to overcome the fear. I
appreciate it.
Hoai: Thank miss Sophie, Ngan and Lien attendance to this stage today
I hope the things we have shared. It can help the audience somewhat face their fears more
easily and what should do when they face fear. Thank you for watching us. See u in the next
show.
