Creating a Mind Map - card 2 - Video

Transcript

- When making presentations, studying a new topic or brainstorming a

diagram that neatly organizes information will do the job better than
paragraphs full of texts. A great example of this is a mind map, which
helps you process and present complex ideas more easily. A mind map is
a visual brainstorming or note-taking tool that places the central
idea in the middle with main components branching out in all
directions. Each successive smaller branch describes a sub-component
of that idea in a word or short phrase. Mind maps can include
pictures, colors, and curved lines to help organize and identify
ideas. Mind maps are advantageous because they reflect the way your
brain naturally works. Your brain works by association and mind maps
group together related topics and ideas, making it easier to recall
something on the tip of your tongue. Mind maps allow you to see the
big picture. Immediately, you are able to find what the main points
are and not lose sight of that central idea. Mind maps allow you to
incorporate new knowledge quickly. You can find the appropriate
cluster and fit new piece of information where it needs to be. You can
create mind maps using pen and paper or with digital tools. Pen and
paper can be a welcome reprieve from staring at a computer screen
while using applications such as Mindjet, XMind and Novamind allow you
to make edits and rearrange information on the fly. Whichever way you
choose, the next time you have a presentation or hold a brainstorming
session, consider using a mind map to help you or your audience
process ideas more easily.
