Helen Keller was an amazing woman who became famous for her courage and determination. She
was born in a small town in Alabama, USA. When she was only 19 months old, Helen became very
sick. After her illness, she could no longer see, hear, or speak.
Even though life was very difficult for Helen, she did not give up. When she was 7 years old, a teacher
named Anne Sullivan came into her life. Anne taught Helen how to communicate by using her hands.
Helen learned to read and write using Braille, a special way of writing for blind people.
Helen became the first deaf-blind person to graduate from college. She wrote many books, gave
speeches, and worked hard to help others with disabilities. She showed the world that no matter
what challenges we face, we can achieve great things if we try hard enough.
Fun Fact: Helen loved dogs and often had one by her side!
