Sub: TTPS – Operation - Industrial Safety & Health – Precautionary Measures to be
taken during the rainy season – Instructions - Reg.

The following Precautionary Measures shall be taken during rainy season to safe
guard the Board’s materials and to avoid emergencies due to flooding.
1. Coal stored in coal yard should be covered with tarpaulin cover. Stagnant water collected
thro’ seepage may be cleared then and there.
2. Exhaust fan opening in the walls shall be checked for any water seepage.
3. Regular checking is needed in all junction boxes, switch boxes, telephone junction boxes
etc., for ensuring healthiness.
4. 22 KV temporary supply points should be periodically inspected.
5. All Earthing points may be ensured for Healthiness.
6. Sparks and glow should be checked periodically in 230 KV overhead lines.
7. Loose Cables and bare ends should be insulated.
8. Usage of Umbrella in switch yard area should be strictly avoided.
9. Rain coat and torch should be readily available.
10. Healthiness of DG set should be ensured and adequate diesel level to be maintained to
meet out any supply failures.
11. De-watering pumps and accessories should be kept in ready condition for operation at any
time.
12. Alternative sources of energy may be identified for operating dewatering pumps.
13. Storm water pumps should be in healthy condition for operation at any time. Round the
clock operator availability may be ensured. Alternate communication channel to the
operator may be identified.
14. Ambulance should be in ready condition at Site. In camp – II hired basis ambulance
should be engaged in place of already condemned one.
15. Concrete breaking power hammer / Tree cutting power saws shall be arranged by civil
divisions immediately for emergency use.
16. All officers and subordinates, staff should be available to meet any emergency. In case of
granting leave, proper substitute may be posted.

17. Healthiness of slurry pumps to be ensured to meet out any abnormal flooding inside the
power house.
18. Fire Rescue service persons may be put on alert for meeting any emergency.
19. Any water leakages from roof area should be arrested immediately.
20. All drainages in site and camps area should be regularly cleaned so that there is no water
stagnant and it should be ensured by the field officers regularly.
21. Stagnant Water at the roof of buildings should be drained then and there.
22. Stagnant Water in areas nearby the working place should be cleared.
23. In ash dyke area, the bund protection has to be ensured and regular inspection should be
carried out.
24. All Personal Protective Equipments should be provided depending on the requirements of
work nature.
25. Welding area should be inspected regularly. Welding work shall be stopped completely in
open/ wet areas during rains.
26. Oil storage in store and other areas may be protected from any flooding / seepage.
Leaking roof area may be identified and suitable precautions may be taken to safe guard
the materials stored in the area. Water sensitive materials like bearings, electrical
equipments and other precision spares may be stored suitably to avoid deterioration due
to wetting.
27. Two wheelers / cars may be driven with at most caution. Wearing of helmets for two
wheelers and seat belt for 4 wheelers is compulsory.
28. First aid box medicine availability may be ensured.
29. Anchor healthiness of stacker / re-claimer may be ensured.
30. Any pit found on the walkway / ground level should be barricaded by the concerned
divisions.
31. Healthiness of the emergency lamp in vital areas like switch yard, UCB and other control
rooms may be ensured.
32. Healthiness of Freight lifts, VIP lifts should be ensured.
33. Fire alarm switches healthiness in all locations may be ensured.
34. Wind sacks should be provided in the required areas.
35. Functioning of the Public Address System and all intercom telephones should be ensured.
36. Security personals should be alert and they should inform any abnormalities to EE/O&E-II.

37. Aged / dry trees should be identified and cleared then and there. Grooming of trees shall
be carried out on need basis to avoid untoward incidents during heavy rainfall.
38. Weak structures should be strengthened.
39. Hoists, EOT cranes, Hydromac cranes healthiness should be checked and operator
availability may be ensured.
40. Hygienic condition of Toilets, bathroom and rest rooms are to be maintained.
41. Quality of Drinking water should be checked with at most care during rainy season to
avoid water bond diseases.
42. Cleanliness of power plant area shall be maintained. Debris, dry leaves and dust bins are
to be cleared in regular interval.
43. Damages & Pits in roads shall be closed accordingly to avoid water stagnation and slip
/trip of vehicles.
44. Medicines in the Occupational Health Centre shall be maintained adequately and to meet
any emergencies.
45. In addition to the above, any other precautions specific to a particular workspot may be
ensured by the field officials.
Hence all the Field Engineers, staff may be instructed to strictly adhere the above
instructions without any deviation so as to avoid any untoward incidents during the rainy
season.
Action taken report by respective circles may be sent to Superintending Engineer/
Operation.
