Communication and Collaboration
Introduction
For the purpose of this course, communication and collaboration shall be discussed in the context of
using digital technologies to communicate and collaborate.
Communication
It is the process of exchanging information or ideas between two or more people.
It can be verbal (spoken), nonverbal (body language, facial expressions, etc.), or written.
Effective communication is necessary for us to be able to succeed in all areas of life such as work,
school, research, personal relationships etc.
Collaboration
It is the process of working together with others to achieve a common goal.
It involves sharing ideas, resources, and expertise to accomplish a shared/mutual goal.
Collaboration is important since it can be more effective than individual work, as it allows people to
combine their strengths and knowledge towards attaining collective objectives.
Communication and collaboration
Considering the above, communication and collaboration are closely related.
Effective communication is essential for successful collaboration, and collaboration can lead to more
effective communication.
A good example is, when people are working together on a project, they need to be able to
communicate effectively in order to share ideas, make decisions, and resolve conflicts.
Digital Technologies
Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, and resources that help to create, store, manage,
process and share data.
Due to continuous advancements in technology, it is important to note that digital technologies are
constantly evolving, and new applications are being developed all the time.
