26. Two rails are represented by the equations x + 2y – 4 = 0 and 2x + 4y – 12 = 0. Will the rails cross
each other?
27. A horse is tied to a peg at one corner of a square shaped grass field of side 15 m by means of a 5 m
long rope (i) the area of that part of the field in which the horse can graze. (ii) the increase in the
grazing area if the rope were 10 m long instead of 5 m. (Use = 3.14)

32. The median of the following data is 525. Find the values of x and y, if the total frequency is 100.
33. A statue, 1.6 m tall, stands on the top of a pedestal. From a point on the ground, the angle of
elevation of the top of the statue is 60° and from the same point the angle of elevation of the top of
the pedestal is 45°. Find the height of the pedestal.
34. If we add 1 to the numerator and subtract 1 from the denominator, a fraction reduces to 1. It
becomes 1/2 if we only add 1 to the denominator. What is the fraction?
OR
The sum of a two-digit number and the number obtained by reversing the digits is 66. If the digits of
the number differ by 2, find the number. How many such numbers are there?
35. XY and XY are two parallel tangents to a circle with centre O and another tangent AB with point
of contact C intersecting XY at A and XY at B. Prove that AOB = 90°.
SECTION - E
36. A manufacturer of TV sets produced 600 sets in the third year and 700 sets in the seventh year.
Assuming that the production increases uniformly by a fixed number every year, find:
(i) the production in the 1st year (ii) the production in the 10th year
(iii) the total production in first 7 years
37. A tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and diameter of the
cylindrical part are 2.1 m and 4 m respectively, and the slant height of the top is 2.8 m.
i) Find the area of the canvas used for making the tent.
ii) Find the cost of the canvas of the tent at the rate of 500 per m2. (Note that the base of the tent will
not be covered with canvas.)
iii) Find the volume of the tent.
38. Two dice, one blue and one grey, are thrown at the same time. Write down all the possible outcomes.
What is the probability that the sum of the two numbers appearing on the top of the dice is
(i) 8? (ii) 13? (iii) less than or equal to 12?
