Editorial
I have bid farewell to 5 batches before me over the
course of the last 5 years and now comes a time
where I must do the very same over the course of
one. Each batch carried with it its own experiences,
Private jokes, nuances and nuisances. Each form is
unique in their very own way, but I take great honor
in saying we are arguably one of the greatest and
most healthy ensemble of boys ,not just the house,
but the school has seen. I’m sure our housemaster
VKL would agree with me when I say this but feel
free to correct me if I’m being a little too biased.
Q2) Has living up to the post of ‘Housemaster’ been tedious for you?
VKL: Being a housemaster hasn’t been tedious for me in any sense. Instead of being a job it is
my way of living. There is no conflict or contradiction that I have to face and I see my life as one
that is aligned with the house. In fact, I am thankful to all the housemasters before me for allowing
me to learn the tips and tricks of ‘Housemastership’.
I believe investing in relationships is something that is vital for any good housemaster. It is
necessary to allow boys to make their own choices, and, at the same time, some space should be
given to them while clear boundaries must also be set. To put things into perspective, I stand firmly
against an “instructional” relationship in which rigid rules are laid out for everyone to follow. In
order to be an efficient housemaster, I engage with boys so that I know what they need. Personally,
I love to have company of the Jaipur House boys (especially SC formers). Reflecting back on
conversations, I really enjoy the mutual trust that I am able to build with the boys. Thankfully, I’ve
now been relieved of the prefix that was attached to my post earlier!
Q3) What is an important quality absent in Jaipur house boys? How do you think that this
quality can be instilled in the boys?
VKL: The problems that I notice are by no means limited to Jaipur house but rather prevail in
the entire generation. The way I see it, this generation gives up too easily when they struggle.
Sadly, the fire to keep going has become rare. I want boys to have a high degree of self-belief,
even when the times get tough. One of the lines that I want boys to cherish comes from Curt
Han - “There’s more to you than you think” – in my opinion, lines like these should live in the
heart of any boy.
I think that this self-belief can be instilled in boys by giving them their space, allowing them to
commit mistakes and only hold their hand to guide them when necessary. They may not always
make the right choice, but failing is also an important part of life. Without experiencing failure,
2018 Where Eagles Dare
the boys will never understand the value of success. In the end, I think the most important thing
is to believe more in the process than the result, which would further enhance the skills of the
boys.
Q4) In what ways are Jaipur house boys different from the other houses?
VKL: The way I see it, Jaipur house boys carry chivalry, sophistication and a caring attitude
wherever they go. Student-master relationships have always been the best in Jaipur house and
this is something that really makes us special. Another thing that makes us special are the
traditions
that we continue to believe in, PT is an amazing example of this. In fact, I have seen the love for
the house still continuing to grip old boys when they return, and this love makes us unique. On a
lighter note, I think our house produces the most amazing female actors who act better than
women themselves!
VKL: Our partnership is extremely fruitful; In fact, we complement each other. Both of us are
strong individuals and with the same ethos (boys know the reason – Bihar). We believe in a
well-defined boundary for boys within which they can explore and experiment with their lives.
Our relation also has a huge amount of mutual respect and both of us cherish that. This was
more like an expansion of our relationship; we had already worked together for the yearbook
and various other events. Another fact that everyone should know about Mohit is that he makes
great coffee, something that helps me survive the late nights.
If I were Housemaster for a day...

Cricket Report
Cricket practices have always been accompanied with numerous broken fingers and
more spinning heads than balls. However, this year, the Eagles managed to keep their
momentum going as they thrashed one house after another.
Even after facing the initial setback against Hyderabad, the team led by Aditya Vikram
Singh bounced back with a bang. Moreover, Ratnaditya’s effortless yet humongous
sixes on upper skinners, complimented by his unadulterated rage, bought the leagues
team every victory they deserved.
A jaw-dropping catch by Varad may have been the cause of a painless win for the
Eagles. Several dismissals came as jolts to the batsmen due to Roy’s cheeky but bold
stumpings. A splendid hat-trick by Divy helped secure the match against Tata House.
With Vijay continuing to swing the new ball and get early breakthroughs Zuber and
Aditya V. Singh made use of spin to beat the bat by bamboozling the opposition
batsmen.
A dominant juniors side who bagged the cup helped us spot the young talent of many
juniors. Led by Aditya Jain the team flourished with Aditya picking up 31 wickets,
while Vishishta managed to stack 126 runs on the board with one flamboyant innings.
The season may have ended with the Eagles being placed second for the House Cup,
but hopes and dreams are sure to assist them on their journey to the top next year.

Football Report
In the recently concluded Inter House Soccer Tournament, Jaipur House bagged the
Football Shield under the captaincy of Ishan Roy. The Eagles won the Seniors Cup for
the third year in a row. The seniors (House XI and Leagues) scored a total number of
23 goals, staying unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Ishan Roy was the top scorer of the tournament. We saw excellent performances by
Shiv Sharma in the centre and Aditya Vikram Singh who shifted his position mid
season, bagging a few goals for the house. Exchange student Conor White put up a
brilliant show, scoring numerous goals for the house. Aryaman Khosla scored the
House Cup deciding goal against Kashmir House which ended a hard-fought
competition.
The defence must be commended for their tough performances, with Ratnaditya
Chavda, Ishaan Goenka and Varad Singh Mann making up the back line, and Anish
Bhide in goal. Varad, leaving for his Round Square conference held in Canada resulted
in a House XI appearance for Praket Agarwal who didn’t disappoint keeping the
opposition wingers in his check.
Amongst the Juniors, upcoming talent was seen in the form of Abhuday Kainthola,
Iman Chatterjee and Tarun Doss. Overall, it was a great football season for Jaipur
House with us retaining the Senior Cup and bringing back the much-coveted Shield.

Swimming Report
This year’s Inter-House Swimming Competition saw fierce battle amongst the five
houses. Our swimming team was led by Zohravar Singh Bhati. Yatharth Goel led
as Junior’s captain whil Armaan Batta and Damanpreet S. Lobana led as Medium’s
captains.
The house ended up being adjudged third in the Junior’s Cup, fourth in the Medium’s
Cup, which was a little dampning for Jaipur House as they had been winning it for
over six years. We stood second in the Seniors Cup and fourth in the House Cup.
Even though Jaipur House did not live up to it’s usual expectations, some outstanding
performances were seen.
Tarun Bhide broke the record for the 200 meters, individual medley by 4 seconds,
with the time of 3 minutes and 1 second in the mediums category. The house
saw some emerging talents in the form of Mitul Agarwal and Sangcho Rijuju.
Commendable performances were given by Aditya Jain, Anish Bhide (who covered up
a whole length in the 4x400 relay), Rishabraj Verma, Yatharth Goel, Zoraver Mehta
and Zohravar Bhati.
This year’s swimming competition was disappointing for Jaipur House as the Cup
was lost from the cabinet after a seven year streak. However, there have to be ups
and downs in every road so the house can give their best the next year to emerge
victorious.

Hockey Report
This year Jaipur House secured the second position in the Hockey House Cup. Both
the seniors and juniors put up great performances on the field.
The Eagles put up a very tough fight; though they played all their matches without
their captain Anish Bhide who got injured a few days before the competition. Our
Leagues team lead by Prabhav Maheshwari also played to the best of their abilities,
winning two games out of four and drawing one. The seniors got off to a flying start
winning the first two games, however a killer blow was inflicted as they lost the next
two House XIs costing them the House Cup. Shiv Sharma, Ishan Roy and Aayush
Chowdhry found the net on a few occasions with Ratnaditya Chavda and Ishaan
Goenka being pivotal at the back. Upcoming talent was seen in the form of
Aryaman Khosla.
In Juniors, Jaipur House came second with a nail biting finish; losing the cup to
Hyderabad house by two points. The J1 team led by Jahaan Sahgal remained
undefeated throughout the season. Tarun Bhide, Abhyuday Kainthola and Abhisaar
Sudhakar put up commendable performances.
We were happy to see that a large majority of the house took part in the Inter House
Hockey competition this year; competing with their best efforts. It was a slightly
disappointing result as we were touted as favourites to lift the cup but hopefully we
can redeem ourselves next year.

PT Report
Led by Zohravar Singh Bhati and Aditya Vikram Singh, Jaipur House placed second in
the PT House Cup, missing the first position by only 10 points. The Eagles bagged the
Senior Cup and came third in the Junior’s Competition. The Senior’s P.T. Cup entered
the cabinet after 6 years, after laudable efforts put in by Zohraver and Yashmit.
Despite a ligament tear, Zohravar worked tirelessly for the cup.
With ‘green’ singlets present around the main building during break, the unsettled
sand of the quadrangle throughout the day and the strenuous and tedious practices
that stretched all the way from early morning till ‘midnight’, one would say that our
placement was well deserved.
Everyone was more than happy after winning the cup as they had sacrificed their
hair, sweat and time to make sure the cup came to Jaipur House. All seniors also
remember drinking the well-deserved ‘ice tea’ from the cup. Not to forget the
celebration afterwards that didn’t only lighten everyone’s moods, but also carved a
feeling of unity and strength within the heart of the house. One thing that any Dosco
would never forget; PT can be symbolized as an event that brings together
differences to produce results that signify the dedication and persistence of all that
reside in the house.

Drama Report
Jaipur House secured the Best Director Award, second time in a row, The Best Play
and the Best Supporting Actor by putting up a mind-blowing performance of Eugene
Ionesco’s absurd play ‘Rhinoceros’. It was a great learning experience for all and our
House managed to bag three out of four awards.
Eugene Ionosco brings forth how, over time, even the best of us can turn into single-
minded, violent and ruthless beasts. In his play, he further sheds light on the sheer
power of herd mentality and depicts one man’s struggle to keep his identity when
everyone else have turned into ‘Rhinoceroses’.
We were led by our director, Yash Dewan, who later won the award for The Best
Director. Our producer, Yashmit Sutodia, also played a major role in arranging our
props and clothing. The house put up an outstanding performance, even though
some doors fell, and some cats were run over. The dresses for the female characters,
the wigs and suits for the male characters, will be forever engraved in our minds.
In the lead role, we had Aryan Bhattacharjee who fit perfectly into the character of
Berenger, a character who was late for almost everything, and unsatisfied with his
routine life. Siddhant Shyam played the character Jean, Berenger’s best friend and
idea; a man who is punctual, well dressed and strong willed. However, he is unable to
maintain his identity and turns into a rhinoceros. He rightly won the award for Best
Supporting Actor.
Other irreplaceable members of the cast were Armaan Batta, Aditya Jain and Aayush
Chowdhury. It was the entire house that played a part in the victory; from the tiny
C formers responsible for setting the stage to Zohravar, Roy and Aditya participating
from the crowd to VKL and JJW who never missed a chance to support the eagles.
When we all look back to this play, one thing races across our minds, “Oh, A
rhinoceros!”

Music Report
With Zoraver Mehta emerging victorious in the piano solo category, for the second
year in a row, and leading the band along with, Anay Shah, Ishaan Goenka, Shiv
Sharma, Aditya Vikram Singh, Prabhav Maheshwari and Jaiveer Mishra; this year,
Jaipur House has shown a significant improvement in the field of music. The band
emerged second in the category.
Prabhav Maheshwari put in a great deal of effort to bring us his outstanding vocal
solo, and at the same time working on his tabla solo. He also led the House Choir,
conducted by Anay Shah to come third against very close competition.
We also saw the juniors of the house getting involved in the competition. The house
found new talent in Veer Nigam, who bravely played the Sitar in the Instrumental solo
category, Udai Dungarpur and Aarav Prakash, who made their debut in the band and
Aditya Jain, who accompanied Prabhav Maheshwari in the Table solo category. D and
C formers also showed tremendous enthusiasm in the house choir category.
The dance troup was led by Agastya Bharagava, along with Armaan Batta, Pranav
Sachdeva and Mitul Aggarwal. Even after putting in a lot of effort, the result was not
as expected. We hope to do well in the coming years.
The Inter-house music competition, ending by setting a higher bar for the next year,
and was a great learning experience for everyone who participated this year.

Nostalgic Note
This year we decided to let the current SC form delve into their locker room of memories
and had every one of them write a short nostalgic note. Personally there are too many
memories to list.
When I arrived at Jaipur House in my C-form I learnt so much from my form-mates. Even in
situations where I would mess up they would collectively stand beside me. It was alarming
to see boys who I had simply known for two months show such unity even as they received
punishment due to my falsities in the name of collective responsibility. I was grilled by
Matta and learnt through example on the basketball court what it meant to be dedicated
towards the house. He was the reason I fell in love with the sport. Life lessons from Bob
defined my character in numerous ways. Then there were obviously the long practices,
stage committee, the yearbook and other activities on and off the field which formed a
chunk of memories that will stick by me for life.
But, with all fun and games aside the one memory that stuck with me all these years was: In my A
form I was joking around with one of my SC’s (whom I was very close to) who had a
tendency to get overexcited at times (cough cough Rohan). In all the jostling he
momentarily got serious and gave me the worst blasting of my school life—Yes, worse than
VKL sir when that same batch came back from their form “outing”. Being myself I did plenty
of drama and swore never to talk to another SC in my entire life. What followed was
something I as a stern believer in the hierarchy was positively overwhelmed by. My two
closest friends in that batch Varun and Parmar came up to me and told me to shut up and
stop crying and that I was like their younger brother and shouldn’t let that get to me.
Although I concede I was being overly dramatic. The words that followed made me realize
the sense of unity that existed in Jaipur House. The very same seniors that would call you
out for every small mistake, were the same seniors that always had your back and that you
could confide in no matter what the circumstance.
ZORAVER MEHTA: The 4 am nights filled with popcorn, Bob, Bhati, pre-biology crime petrol and the
countless times we sang JMD make this journey unforgettable.
AGASTYA BHARGAVA: After half an hour of anticipation, my 18th birthday was celebrated rather
loudly by my formmates late at night. The celebration, despite the initial resentment, were
memorabe to say at least.
AVIRAJ S. MACHRE: I’ll never forget the times in D form when i wore a handkerchief on my jurah
like Milkha Singh. I’d like to take credit for officially being the best maggi maker in the house, and
introducing everyone to Theobroma and Expressions brownies (you’re welcome guys).
AAYUSH CHOWDHRY: I will always remember the 18 clowns shouting about in corridors,
incessantly entering my study (for bomb squad mostly), and living apart yet together. Thank you to
the people who taught me life!
37
Where Eagles Dare 2018
PRABHAV MAHESHWARI: From playing ‘quadi’ cricket with the whole form (which eventually
changed to bomb squad) to the late night gossip with the GANG. Getting killed by VKL for playing
dorm tennis, or going to ‘the lamp’ with Ekam and Dhruv; all of this will be truly missed.
OJAS KHARBANDA: I recall how everyone in our form has tried to raise the standards of being
notorious as compared to the previous batches.
ANISH BHIDE: I will never forget the fun times I have had with my form; talking until late at night,
running around chasing people, dance and play tryouts and not to forget the S-form ‘Enti’ where
we laughed together as a batch.
RAGHAV DALMIA: I will always remember getting lost at Nagtibha with VKL. Also those late-night
conversations and bomb squad parties with friends will never be forgotten.
ADITYA V. SINGH: In AT-Form, 10 of us singing ‘JMD’ every night with zero on the keyboard. In
S-form, Bhati repeatedly switching on the lights and not letting me sleep, to my bag always being
co-incidently found only when classes started. It was little moments like these that made my time
in the house so special.
YASH DEWAN: Nostalgia includes fond memories, like staying back for boards with just Yashmit,
heated discussions with Bhatta and almost pushing JNX off the cliff.
PRITISH DUGAR: I remeber when the entire form used to bunk breakfast in AT form and used to
hide from JNX when he came looking for us.
ISHAN ROY: One of the memories I will never forget is chasing Aviraj Machre across the campus
along with Adi and Yashmit. We would call this the ‘Changa Run’. The house XI games as well as
quadi soccer will truly be missed.
RATNADITYA CHAWDA: I’ve had some great times; Exams, singing loudly to disturb JNX, JNX
running around the house with a hockey stick, to him checking my locker for banned substances. I
am satisfied to say I’ve made everlasting memories here.
YASHMIT SUTODIA: The nights that never ended and the mornings before exams always flashed
by (at least for a few of us). this house has made me into the man I am today, for which I am truly
grateful.
TEGH S. SANDHU: The times in AT form with JNX will really be missed.
SUDHANSHU AGARWAL: The memory dearest to me is when VKL made us climb the wrong
mountain, claiming he knew the place ‘inside out’ and my formates subtly hinting at me, being
closest to the guide.

Boys,
As we walk through the gates of The Doon School as Old Boys who left 25 years ago, we reflect
on what we got from our alma mater. First of all it’s how it prepared us to face the world and face
up to what being real men is about. The Ethos and the way Doon functioned is something very few
people in the world had the privilege of being part of. The values we were taught and the basics
knocked into us on a daily basis are the sort of intangibles that have helped the majority of us excel
in our chosen fields. Many of us were underachievers, heras, midterm jammers and the sorts who
got by in school not necessarily trying too hard but honestly we did what was necessary. Little did
one realize that even doing
just that little bit was subconsciously training us for life,
whether it was Chhots fagging, serving, piling up chairs in
chair squad, making sure our socks were pulled up and the
like.
Honestly these little things helped shape our minds and behaviour and that has really made us the
men we are today. Another huge thing has been the camaraderie due to living with each other for
such a long time during our formative years brings a certain comfort zone that only Doscos can
have with each other. Who ever you may be and however successful you might be when you meet a
fellow Dosco you meet at a base level, we meet as equals.
Our best friends are Doscos and our batch is spread far and wide, from Sarainaga in Punjab to
Lima in Peru and of course plenty of us in Delhi, Bombay, London, Singapore and New York and
lots of places in between. Our batch encompasses many walks of life; professors in IIT, CEOs and
senior guys of Tech, Banks, Cosmetic Companies, hoteliers, precision instrument manufacturers,
Derby winning horse breeders, security logistics experts with turnovers in Croooores, cutting edge
farmers, future Brewing tycoons, power brokers in Sports and Entertainment, Investment Bankers,
Fine Leather Goods manufacturers, the occasional arms dealer, the boss of one of India’s largest,
“Electromechanical” Companies and so on and so forth. When we meet though It’ll be all the same,
we’ll still make fun of each other just as we always did.
We revel in each other’s success yet always there to help out when one needs an ear to vent or
a shoulder to cry on. Doon taught us the right values and made us citizens who in some way or
the other always look to make a positive impact at those around them. There was always a great
conviction of right and wrong and when one was wrong many a times a hard zinger from Mr Vohra

aka BOND straightened that out! Many got that dreaded Jhaap but they’ll all tell you today they did
deserve it.
So as we look back to April 1987 when us little kids joined Doon and on to March 1993 when we
left as adolescents and today we look forward to coming back to school in 2018 as men to relive our
pasts and reminisce about the time we had some bad but mostly good! We will always remember
there is only ONE, THE Doon School!

Dear Doscos,
We joint school in the spring of 1986. I had the privilege of going straight to the main house, my
house, Jaipur A. This would be my home for the next 6 years.
The first person I met from my batch was Arjun Sahgal. It was love at first sight I believe. Arjun
knew everything about everything. Most importantly he introduced me to all the expensive brands.
From Armani to Versace he talked as though they were his best friends. He also helped me get by
all those hungry nights in schools by feeding me bulls. Arjun was the proverbial “bad boy” or
“dada” of our batch. He was also an incredible football and hockey player and helped Jaipur house
win the grandslam in our SC form.
Gaurav Murgai was the 2nd person I met in the House. I knew he was going to be school captain
the first time I met him. A solid student and probably among one the best sportsmen school has ever
produced. He was in most school teams and school cricket and squash captain in S form. Obviously
the first in our batch to get his games blazer.
Amit Sud was the nerd in our house. I actually think he enjoyed Toye time and aspired to become
toye incharge both senior and junior. He was always very helpful with my homework in return I
would thank him by singing a song which I know he wouldn’t want me to repeat here.
These 3 had already spent a year in school when I joint. With me came Harry Gill or better known
as Goonie sird back then. He would tie his pug so tight that everyone thought there were to Nepali’s
in our batch. Harry was obsessed with 2 things when I first met him, cars and Isha. Harry was
also the best cyclist in school and if school would have had Cycling as a sport he would have been
captain. Instead he became school soccer captain. He also became house captain.
Samir Abhyankar or Romeo cause he came from Rome. His stint was brief as he left school after
B form. What I do remember about him was the imported chocolates and his fancy soccer shoes
and shin guards. He’s someone who came into our lives as quickly as he left. I wish him all the best
where ever he is.
Kaushilendra Kumar and Amit Chauhan were my other 2 batch mates who joint in foot house. Both
Hindi scholars were masters in Hindi and Maths. They probably helped me as much in passing my
class X as the shirt which had all the answers written on it. I always held a special place in my
heart for Amit’s mother as we would talk about her often. This would sometime lead to him chasing
me across Chand bagh. They were some of the most care free times in our lives.
Last but not least, yes I was a brilliant runner. Child prodigy some would say. Only Dosco in the
history of school to win the senior cross country 4 years on the trot. They finally gifted the Gulab
Ramchandani trophy to me when I left school. I happened to be the second in the batch to get my
games and it wasn’t a coincidence that JA with only 6 boys had all the major sports captaincies
except for hockey. We had cricket, football, athletics, squash, cross country and Senior PT leader.
Yes that was me as I was the loudest in the batch. I also happened to get my athletic colours in B
form followed by boxing in S form. This along with my Gold badge helped me get my games early.

Yes we all had our individual achievements but as individuals we were only a small part but as
a band of brothers we achieved more than anyone in our entire batch. From breaking records to
breaking bounds we lead the way in every facet.
