OUTLINE OF FEATURES
The F6A, F6B, F8C have the following features:
● 4-strokes OHC 2-cylinder engine

Small, lightweight, compact engine.

Ensures top level of performance in this class (vibration, noise, maximum speed, acceleration,
low fuel consumption).

Abundant models to match various types of boats.

1
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
1. POWER UNIT
The F6A, F6B, F8C are lightweight, compact engines which have been newly designed for
convenience on ease of use, reliability, and durability.
It is a 2-cylinder SOHC engine with a newly designed cylinder head.
Use of a counterflow-type cylinder head makes it possible to position the intake and exhaust
manifolds on the starboard side, which contributes greatly to making the engine compact.
The blow-by gas passes through the breather box installed to the head cover. The oil and gas are
separated and return to the intake silencer to be burned together with the new air mixture, thereby
preventing discharge to the atmosphere.
A microcomputer control ignition system is used to provide smooth control of the engine speed and
to achieve a maintenance-free system.

2
2. IGNITION SYSTEM
The engine ignition system consists of the flywheel, charge coil, pulser coil, oil pressure switch,
ignition coil, and CDI unit.
The F6A, F6B, F8C employ a digital ignition control system using a microcomputer.
Use of a digital ignition control system makes it possible to achieve the appropriate ignition timing
over the whole range from low speed to high speed.
In addition, the newly designed CDI ignition system controls the ignition timing when the oil pressure
drops below the specified valve or when the engine speed is over-revolution.

3
3. UPPER CASE
This engine is constructed so that the upper case is integrated with the oil pan in order to achieve light
weight and compactness.
The large capacity, multi-stage exhaust expansion chamber structure is used to contribute for
reduction of noise at low speed in friendly.
The new type of oil pan cooling system makes it possible to ensure optimum oil temperature
envirorment over the whole range from low to high engine speed.
By employing this system it is possible to achieve stability of the engine performance and the
reliability. In addition, the drain bolt is positioned so that it is possible to drain the oil regardless of the
tilt position.

4
4. MOUNT LAYOUT
The F6, F8 use a large upper mount of the 15 ps (11.0 kw) class, while the lower mount uses a 15
ps (11.0 kw) class mount.
This increases the size of the mount and also increases the distance between the upper side mount
and the lower side mount, which is aimed for the stability of operation and reduction of vibration.

5. LARGE SPLASH PLATE

A newly designed large splash plate is employed to make it possible to set it on a wide variety of
boats, and prevents spray.

5
6. BRACKET
The new bracket is equipped with a through tube and it is possible to secure it to the transom with
bolts.
This bracket has the wide clamps, ladder type (multi-stage adjustment) manual tilt, front tilt lever type,
2-position setting for traveling in shallow water to enable it to match various types of boats and
rigging.
In addition, the structure makes it possible to install steering friction.

Setting the tilt lock lever to the front makes operation easier.

6
7. TILLER HANDLE
1) LONG HANDLE (F6AMH/F6MHY, F8CMH/F8MHY)
The tiller handle used on the F6A, F8C is provided with a shift mechanism, throttle function, and
lanyard stop switch.
The latest type of throttle grip is aimed for easy operation, and the angle of opening of the throttle is
100° from fully closed to fully open.
In addition, the throttle grip is equipped with a dynamic damper weight to reduce vibration.

7
2) SHORT HANDLE (F6AMH, F6BMH, F8CMH)
The tiller handle used on the F6A, F6B, F8C is provided with a throttle function, and lanyard stop
switch.
The latest type of throttle grip is aimed for easy operation, and the angle of opening of the throttle is
100° from fully closed to fully open.
In addition, the throttle grip is equipped with a dynamic damper weight to reduce vibration.

8
8. RECOIL STARTER
The recoil starter uses a drum sheave of the same type as found in models one class higher. For this
reason, the pulling load of the recoil starter has been reduced to make it easier to start.
In addition, it is equipped with a safety device interconnected with the shift handle that prevents the
boat from suddenly moving when the engine is started.

9. TOP COWLING
This engine uses an adjustable toggle clamp, the first time that it has been used on a small model.
The top cowling is strong against external stress and uses highly rigid material.
In addition to the use of a large apron, it has the feeling of forming one part with the top cowl and
bottom cowl, and provides a compact exterior design.

9
10. LOWER CASE
Use of a small lower case of the 2-cycle 8 ps (5.9 kw) class makes it possible to ensure maximum
speed and acceleration and to achieve low fuel consumption.
The water pump is the same pump as used in models of one class higher, so this also helps in
increasing the engine cooling efficiently.
The standard propeller set for the 2-cycle 8C is used.

11. DUAL THRUST PROPELLER (F8CW)

Operation when traveling in reverse:
With the standard propeller, the exhaust gas flows from the propeller boss in the direction of the
propeller, so the air may be pulled in by the propeller.
With the dual thrust propeller, the shape of the propeller boss changes the flow of water, and the
exhaust gas passes through the inside of the propeller boss and is exhausted to the front of the
propeller.
By changing the discharge position of the exhaust gas to the front of the propeller, the amount of
exhaust gas pulled in by the propeller has been reduced, and this provides high reverse propulsion
force to the outboard motor.

10
TECHNICAL TIPS
1. IGNITION SYSTEM
A digital ignition timing control system using a microcomputer is employed for this ignition system.
The signal from the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is merged with the signal from the pulser coil to
determine the ignition timing.
By using this ignition timing control method, it is possible to control to the appropriate ignition timing
over the whole range of the engine from low speed to high speed.
The power source for the CPU is provided through the emergency wire (yellow) from the charge coil.
The normal ignition timing is controlled between BTDC 5° and BTDC 30°. In addition, it carries out
control when the oil pressure drops and when the engine is over-revolution.

11
1) NORMAL IGNITION TIMING CONTROL
The angle is controlled between BTDC 5° and BTDC 30°. When starting, it is fixed at BTDC 5°.
This diagram shows the ignition timing and engine speed.

F6A, F6B

F8C

12
2) OVER-REVOLUTION CONTROL
If the engine speed goes above 6,200 ± 100 r/min (F6A, F8C) or 5,500 ± 100 r/min (F6B), the ignition
of the spark plug for both chambers is cut to lower the engine speed.
This protects the engine from damage when there is improper matching of the propeller or the
propeller load is suddenly lost and the engine speed becomes excessively high when traveling.

F6A, F8C

F6B

13
3) LOW-OIL-PRESSURE CONTROL
If the engine lubricating oil pressure drops below 0.15 kgf/cm2 (15 kPa, 2.13 psi), the oil pressure
switch is turned ON and the warning lamp flashes.
When this happens, control is started and the ignition of both cylinders is cut to reduce the engine
speed to 2,000 r/min in 13 seconds.
After the cause is removed, it returns to the normal engine speed control function.

14
4) EMERGENCY CONTROL
There is an emergency circuit that carries out ignition using only the signal from the pulser coil if there
is any abnormality in the CPU.
It is possible to start the engine by opening the yellow lead wire coming from the CDI unit.
The ignition timing when this happens is fixed at BTDC 5°.

15
2. LUBRICATION SYSTEM

16
3. LIGHTING COIL
The F6A, F8C have a one lighting coil model and a two lighting coils model.
There is no difference between the maximum charging performance for one coil or two coils (it is 12V-
6A in both cases).
The two lighting coils model is aimed for the highly charging performance from low speed to mid-
range speed. This enables it to match various uses.
Install a rectifier for the one lighting coil model; always install a rectifier regulator (option) for the two
lighting coils model.
For details of the charging performance, see the table below.

17
When disassembling the lighting coil and charge coil, note that the height of each coil mount is
different.
