SECTION – B
Q. no. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions
21 Why uniform circular motion is known as accelerated motion? 2

Ans: Velocity is changing continuously due to change in direction and rate of change of
velocity is known as acceleration.

22 What force would be needed to change velocity of a body of 4 kg from 20 m/s to 40 m/s in 2
two minutes?
Here m = 4 kg; u=20 m/s, v= 40 m/s ;t = 2 min = 120 s, F = ?
Now F = m(v-u)/t
= 4 x (40-20)/120
= 4 x 20/120
0.66 Newton

SECTION -C
Q.NO 27 to 33 are short answer questions
27 State which of the following situations are possible and give an example for each of these:

a) A body with constant acceleration with zero velocity.

b) An object moving in a certain direction with an acceleration in the perpendicular

direction.

Ans: a) Ans. A body with constant acceleration but with zero velocity is possible. For
example, when a body is just released from its initial velocity v = 0, but acceleration a =
g = 10/𝑚2.

b) This situation is possible. For example, when a body is moving uniformly in a circle, it has
centripetal acceleration directed toward the centre of the circle. The velocity at any instant is
along the tangent to the circle at the instant and acceleration is along the radius of the circle
perpendicular to the tangent.

28 A body is accelerating at a constant rate of 10m/s2. If the body starts to rest, how much 3
distance will it cover in 2 seconds?

Ans: Ans Given that, Acceleration a = 10 m/s² Initial velocity u = o Time t = 2

Using equation of motion

S = ut + at2/2 Where, u = initial velocity s = distance, t = time

a = acceleration We substitute the value in equation

S = 0 + 10x 2x2/2 = 10x2 = 20m

Hence, the distance covered in 2 sec is 20 m.

29 Give 3 examples in daily life which shows inertia. 3

Ans: Three examples of inertia in daily life are: (i) When we are travelling in a vehicle
and sudden brakes are applied, we tend to fall forward.
(ii) When we shake the branch of a tree vigorously, leaves fall down.

(iii) If we want to remove the dust from carpet, we beat the carpet so that dust fall down

30 (a) Why can a balloon seller fill large number of balloons from a single cylinder of air? 3
(b) Why people sprinkle water on open ground on a hot day ?
Ans:(a) As the cylinder contains large amount of gas stored under pressure.
(b) As evaporation of this water takes heat from surroundings thus giving a cooling
effect.
31 What is the physical state of water at: 3
(a)250ºC (b) 100ºC (c)0ºC
Ans: Ans: (a)water vapour or steam (gas)

32 (a) Cultivation practices and crop yield are related to environmental conditions. Discuss 3
(b) Name any two processes in plants that are affected by the deficiency in the nutrients.
Ans:(a) In crop yield, the most influencing factors are soil fertility, availability of water,
climate, and diseases or pests. These should be monitored and managed in an efficient
way to get a high yield. As per the climatic conditions, quality of soil we need to chose
the crops
(b)Growth and reproduction
33 What are the types of food requirements of dairy animals? Why external and internal 3
parasites live on and in the cattle can be fatal.

Ans: Maintenance requirement, which is the food required to support the animal to live a
healthy life.
Milk producing requirement, which is the food required during the lactation period.

The external parasites live on skin and mainly cause skin diseases. The internal parasites like
worms, affect stomach and intestine while flukes damage liver.

SECTION -D
Q.NO 34 to 36 are long answer questions
34 What is momentum? Write its SI unit. Interpret force in terms of momentum. Represent the 5
following graphically:
(a) Momentum versus velocity when mass is fixed.
(b) Momentum versus mass when velocity is constant.
Ans: Momentum = mass × velocity SI unit of momentum is kg ms–1
Force = Rate of change in momentum

35 Name the solute and solvent in: 5

(a)tincture of iodine
(b)soda water
(c)What is Tyndall effect? Why does the solution of sodium chloride not show Tyndall effect
whereas the mixture of water and milk shows it?
Ans: (a) A solution of iodine in alcohol known as ‘tincture of iodine’, has iodine (solid)
as the solute and alcohol (liquid) as the solvent.
(b) Aerated drinks like soda water etc., are gas in liquid solutions. These contain
carbon dioxide (gas) as solute and water (liquid) as solvent .
(c) The scattering of light by colloidal particles is called tyndall effect.
A salt solution does not show tyndall effect because the particles of salt solution are
extremely small in size. It is less than 1 nanometer so such small particles cannot reflect
light rays falling on them whereas Milk solution particles are bigger enough to scatter
the light passing through it.
36 (a)What would happen if poultry birds are larger in size and have no summer adaptation 5
capacity? In order to get small-sized poultry birds having summer adaptability, what method
will be employed? (3)
(b)If you are living in field with abundant greenery and pasturage. Your neighbour is not
satisfied with the income he gets from their agricultural land. Which income generating
activity will you suggest to him in for extra income without much expenditure? (2)

Ans: Consequences of large-sized poultry birds with no summer adaptability

Larger birds require extra diet compared to small-sized birds which affect their
summer adaptability and the farm would need maintenance to control the heat, leading
to additional expenditure.
Methods to achieve small-sized poultry birds with summer adaptability
Exotic birds should be introduced to the farm with desirable qualities.Cross-breeding
the birds present on the farm with the newly introduced birds.
Apiculture or Bee keeping is the best suited activity in such a scenario. It is a low
investment. additional income generating activity.
It is the method of rearing, care and management of honeybees for obtaining honey,
wax and other substances.

Usain, a talented sprinter, participates in a 800 meter race. He starts from rest and for the
first 200 m accelerates uniformly to reach a maximum speed of 20 m/s. However, during the
race, in the next 100 m he moves with constant speed. He slows down due to a muscle cramp
and comes to a stop just 400 meters from the starting line.
Answer the following:
a) Calculate Usain's acceleration during the initial part of the race.
b) Calculate the acceleration during the next part of the race.
c) Determine the time taken by Usain to reach his maximum speed.
OR
c) How much time he could take to complete the race if he would not have muscles cramp
and moved with the same acceleration.
Ans: a) 2as = v2 – u2, 2 x a x 200 = (20 x 20) -0 , a= 400/400 = 1m/s2
b) a is zero as he is moving with a constant speed.
c) t = v-u/a = 20-0/1 = 20 sec.
OR
c) s = ut + ½ at2, 800 = 0 + ½ (1 )t2, 1600 = t2 , t = 40 s

38 Read the passage and answer the questions: 4

Gases are highly compressible as compared to solids and liquids. The liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder that we get in our home for cooking or the oxygen
supplied to hospitals in cylinders is compressed gas. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is
used as fuel these days in vehicles. The liquid takes up the shape of the container in
which they are kept. Liquids flow and change shape, so they are not rigid but can be
called fluid. Solids and liquids can diffuse into liquids. The aquatic animals can breathe
underwater. The rate of diffusion of liquids is greater than solid.
(a) Why Compressed natural gas (CNG) is used as fuel these days in vehicles?
(b) How are aquatic animals able to breathe underwater?
(c) What is diffusion? How does the rate of diffusion change with a change in temperature?
Ans:(a) Easy to transport, ecofriendly
(b) Due to dissolved oxygen in water.
(c)The intermixing of particles of two different types of matter on their own is called
diffusion. It increases with increase in temperature.
